Decorate your home or office for the Holidays Volume Discounts Available Making a movie about a person dying is a tough proposition Ifthe individual survives the dev- astating illness critics say it's too happy-sappy If he or she dies the film is heavy-handed These stories often have a gloomy Grim-Reaperish melan- choly about them They're dark odes to ultimate mystery Bruce Joel Rubin who wrote and directed the brilliant My Ljfe takes a triumphant look at the enigma of death Michael Keaton is in the last stages of cancer and wants to leave a piece of Immortality for his soon-to-be-bom child He begins to videotape his thoughts about life Keaton talks candidly with the child about everything from sex to rebounding a basketball His monologues gen- tly touch some important buttons As he forges an uneasy peace with his impending death Keaton discovers that in order to die he has to come to terms with life While contemplating mortality he finds even the most complex questions have uncomplicated answers Talking with the child does much to heal his soul and Keaton is forced to unearth the simple treasures that make life so precious My life is a magnificent celebration of life Keaton and Nicole Kidman dig deep and give refreshingly human performances Disiplaying Academy Award nominee potential Keaton demonstrates that he is a multidimensional actor with extra adored by its parents but hated by siblings Wednesday and Pugsley They contrive Ingenious but violent ways to kill the child Their parents think just a phase When Morticia tires of baby-sitting they hire Joan Cusack as a nanny But a moneyrubblng serial killer who marries rich men then arranges their deaths Cusack has her eye on Uncle Fester and his millions Wednesday and Pugsley have their eye on her Cusack arranges fbr them to go to summer camp She marries Fester and spirits him away from his fiuni-ly to do the deed You can see Addams Family Values suffers from multiple movie personality The producers couldn't make up their mind what to do with this wretched sequel so they gave you a little bit of everything Raul Julia (Gomez) Anjelica Huston (Morticia) Christopher Lloyd (Fester) Christina Ricci (Wednesday) and Jimmy Workman (Pugsley) adequately reprise their roles Ricci is the only character who gets to stretch a little She falls in love at summer camp The only palatable part of the plot is the summer camp bit An Addams at summer camp is kind of ftinny Nothing else is Rated PG-13 Addams Family Values is playing at Columbia Center Cinemas It gets two bags on the Mr Movie hot-buttered popcorn scale Mid-Columbia Regional Ballet Eldar Aliev presents Tatiana Pali ordinary emotional range Great performances are always accompanied by great writing incredible insight into the human condition is candid and refreshing He describes life with great Joy and childlike passion And he does it so well you often forget that My Life is the story of a death This is a must-see movie Myltfe is rated PG-13 It's playing at the Clearwater Cinemas and rates five bags on the Mr Movie se-ro-to-five hot-buttered popcorn scale Addama Family Vakma Something is missing from the Addams
