just-under-the-surface energy They obviously care for each other but in a deep unspoken nonsexual way screenplay when directed at the characters is perceptive and witty Goldberg and Parker have a sad and moving discussion about the final time spent with a lover ical science professor who spouts politically correct truisms that balance die anger Higher Learning is director John Singleton third movie Ilis concept is all miffed about one thing or another And we are so entrenched in our positions we cant move forward Itfe a good point but poorly stated Singleton crams Higher Learning with too many characters After awhile the film acquires the attributes of a soap opera and loses its freshness The screenplay is at times contrived His point about people needing to take control and responsibility for their lives rings true But it's overemphasized through so many characters that the theme loses effectiveness obsession with gratuitous violence proves to be his undoing Like his
