"I feel like I could handle the coaching duties in college or in high school. I'll stay busy or active in it somehow." But for right now, Davis hopes he'll stay in baseball as a player. el and r- Beauty the Beast Daily 7:00 8:45 SAT SI IN MATINEE 2:00 that's going to be an eye-catcher that has all of the talent." Davis said the Red Sox have left it up to him when he'll play again.

"They just told me to come down (to Florida) whenever I feel I'm ready," Davis said. "To me, the recovery has been a little bit slow. But, I hope, in two weeks I'm headed back." Most injured players are put in extended spring training, but that has ended. "I'll have to be put on a roster," Davis said. He speculated the Red Sox would send him back to Winter Haven or to Lynchburg (Va.) in the Carolina League.

Anna-Jonesboro's Jim Morrison and Marion's Cory Bailey play for Lynchburg. While Davis has been unable to do any real throwing, that has not kept him from keeping his batting sharp. "(The injury) has not affected my hitting," Davis said. "I've got my hitting cage up and my pitching machine up. I'm hitting 200 balls a day." He has also been finishing up his degree in special education at SIU.

Davis said if things don't work out, coaching may be the next step. It's going to be 1 a tough road back for me. I've got to work my butt off. I'm not the type that's going to be an eye-catcher that has all of the talent. Tim Davis Du Quoin native winter, but the pain remained.

"I rested it until January," Davis said. "It just seemed like it didn't heal back at all. It just kept getting progressively worse." Davis had the shoulder looked at and tear was discovered. He underwent surgery at the end in February and has been rehabilitating it since. "It's going to be a tough road back for me," Davis said.

"I've got to work my butt off. I'm not the type $250 Tim Davis heard those words any baseball player fears: Torn rotator cuff. Although surgical procedures have evolved greatly and the percentage of players returning from rotator cuff injuries has increased, a torn rotator cuff is still thought of as career-threatening, especially for pitchers. But Davis is a second baseman, so the injury wouldn't be as devastating as it would be for a pitcher, catcher or outfielder. Those positions involve either throwing a lot of pitches or long and strong throws.

The Du Quoin native injured his right (throwing) shoulder last summer while playing for the Boston's Class A team in Winter Haven (Fla.) of the Florida State League. Davis, 23, was told he had tendinitis and he needed rest. But he was more worried about keeping a job at the time. His batting average was hovering around the .200 mark. "I didn't want to spend two weeks on the disabled list," said Davis, also a former John A.

Logan College and Southern Illinois University player. "I was fighting for a job anyway." Davis rested the shoulder over the YOU NOW CAN BUY TICKETS OVER THE PHONE!
