Recreation district Incumbent Richard Gaughan filed papers Thursday for the short-term seat on the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District board.

Fire district races Michael Shulman, the planning commissioner and former mayor, plans to run for the Scotts Valley fire board, along with Marshall Masters, a tech-n ical writer who moved here four years ago.

Incumbent Richard Clark is seeking another term, but incumbent Jerry Ashfield has decided to step down after eight years. "The district is in a pretty decent Wameling, an engineer, also of Aptos, and Seacliff lawyer Cherie Bobbe, who applied for the opening filled by Wells earlier this year. Two Boulder Creek residents, Gordon Stewart and Janet Laidlaw, have filed for the San Lorenzo Valley Water District board. They are running because they didn't like way the district sold the Waterman Gap property. They would rather have kept the land and allowed it to be logged.

Both Stewart and Laidlaw are active in a campaign to oppose redevelopment in the valley. Incumbents Jim Rapoza and Terry Vierra are seeking re election. Board president Larry Prather hasn't filed papers yet. A race also is shaping at the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency. The filing deadline is today. The hot race will be in the Soquel Creek Water District where seven people have filed for three seats. All three incumbents, Dan Kriege, John Beebe and Nancy Wells, who was appointed this year, want another term. Soquel activist Katherine Sweet is making another bid for office. Two years ago, she came in fourth when six people ran for two seats.
