Algeno (la,) Upper tot Melfttt Thursday, March 24, 1966 -, , "HATE TO MOID UP THE TROUT SEASON. BUT SPRING dEAN-UP...." AMERICAN MSUUNCE ASSOCIATION Fenton Building Hits Boom Year It was a boom year for construction at Fenton. Building permits issued totaled $165,650 which was $159,350 above the $6,300 in permits issued in 1964. The largest projects included building a corn dryer and other improvements at Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company and the building of a new telephone office. These projects cost more than $75,000. The continual-flow grain dryer at Farmers Cooperative Elevator can dry about 1,500 bushels of corn per hour at top capacity. It is some 80 feet tall, but is dwarfed by the concrete elevator behind it. Pro- r Only in Golf Brand PRATO! The construction of the new telephone building brought about the dismantling of a Fenton landmark — originally the German Methodist Church built in 1901. The congregation used the building until about 1913, when it merged with the English Methodist Church and sold the building to the telephone company for the telephone office and residence of the manager. The building continued to be used in this capacity until late 1965. The telephone company moved into tis new building in September and the manager moved out of the old building in December. The building was sold early this year to Herman Mass of Fenton, who has received a permit to tear it down. One new business started in Fenton was "Ruta's Knit Shoppe," which is owned by Mrs. Virgil Finnested. She sells all types of knitting accessories and yarn, gives knitting lessons and also runs a coffee shop which features home-made rolls and pies. She purchased a building which formerly housed a tavern and remodeled it. Four new homes were built in Fenton in 1965, which was four more than had been built the previous year. * * * A basic home tool kit might contain: A utility wrench, size 16; cards of assorted faucet washers, pair of standard pliers, medium-size screwdrivers, claw hammer, keyhole saw; , box of assorted wire nails and . brads, a sturdy penknife, roll of friction tape, and a variety of fuses (if your main panel is , of the fuse type). Spring Tips As the earth around your house becomes hard and compacted and sinks dowrt it may cause depressions, particularly where there has been a trench near the house at the founda- tion. These places must be kept filled with dirt eo that water will not collect in them and cause dampness in the basement. The ground around the home must be kept graded so the earth slopes away from the swelling. !••••••••••••••••••••! There's a limit to Do-it-yourself plumbing!
