THE LOGAN DAILY NEWS Page 6 Thursday, March 22, 1956 Possible Starters On LHS '9' Begin To 'Shape Up' Possible starters on the Logan High School baseball team are beginning to shape up, Coach Marion Allen said today after two weeks of practice. Six lettermen plus a good crop of sophomores and juniors show possibilities of forming a solid ball club. The squad wot Its (brat week oI workouts in the gymnasium practicing throwing, bunting, sliding, second base pivots and fielding grounders. About four days were spent outside before last snow interrupted practices. One short intra- sqiad game was staged, but most of the time was devoted to hitting practice and offensive play.

The Chiefs are probably best fortified in the catching spot with juftiors Jim St. Clair and Melvin Hopstetter. St Clair, a letterman, hit .333, batted in six runs and drew 10 bases on balls as lead-off man last season. He got credit for 94 putouts and assists and was charged with only seven errors. Hopstetter was shifted into the backstopping position last season and has worked hard to become a good receiver.

Senior Frank Hartsell appears to have the first base job sewed up. Last season he plastered the pill at a .368 pace, hit one home run, batted in seven runs and stole eight bases. He also accepted 74 chances in the field with only five errors. Othr first base candidates are juniors Larry Klinger and Larry Byrd. Klinger, a 6-4 first-year man, has shown signs of developing fast and Byrd has been trying hard at several positions.

Scrapping for the second base job are junior letterman Bill Cooksey and senior Don Thomas. Cooksey, although hitting .333 last year, saw little action behind Pete McGuire, who graduated last spring. Thomas has even less experience, but is hard worker. The only contender for the shortstop position at present is letterman Jim Murray. The LHS junior hit a neat .348 last season, clouted two triples and batted in six runs.

Another letterman with limited experience is junior Ben Buckles who appears to be a suitable re- TELEVISION PROGRAMS Thurtdoy Evening, March 22 Top Telecast Tuning 8:30 p.m. CHANNEL 10, live from Hollywood: Horse, Pale starring Dorothy McGuira, John Forsythe and Ann Rutherford. jj, CHANNCL 4 (WLW-C) CHANNCL 8 (WTVN-TV) CHANNEL 10 (WBNS-TV) fsOOjPinky Lee 5:301 Howdy Doody Mickey Mouse Mickey Mouse Western Roundup Western Roundup John Silver John Silver Time Play Klub Movie IMovie (Annie Oakley Annie Oakley (Life With Father 7:00 7:15 7:20 7:45 Walt Phillips Ruby Wright Ruby Wright Dinah Shore Movie Ohio Story Lone Ranger Lone Ranger Long ISgt.
