People score much against Tagge Ranks Third The National Collegiate Sports Service did a thorough study of how 11 of the top quarterbacks ranked last season in various departments and came up with a statistical ranking that has Jerry Tagge third behind Pat Sullivan and Chuck Ealey, and ahead of Heisman Trophy winner Jim Plunkett of Stanford and Notre Joe Theisman.

The quarterbacks were ranked from one to 11 in scoring drives, touchdowns and field goals, long plays (20 yards or more), interception avoidance, first downs, and third down passes completed on a per play basis. Tagge was second to only Eddie Phillips of Texas in leading his team to scores (TDs or field goals). Phillips directed the Longhorns to a score on 49 of his 111 series or 44.1 per cent. Tagge guided the Huskers to a score 41 times in 98 series, for 41.8 per cent. Tagge rated ahead of Plunkett in every category except long plays and first downs.

Lincoln East coach Paul Forch, drilling his Rebel squad at Kearney State and Omaha Cathedral mentor Roger Higgins, who has been working with his North team at Wayne State, both have tapered off practice sessions as game time nears.

The two squads, chosen along the same lines as the longer established Shrine Bowl all-star football game which will also be a Capital City sports feature this weekend, have been in training camps for the past ten days in preparation for the clash. Special rules governing the contest will assure fans a near equal look at all the players during the first half of the game.
