View Memorial Park. Mead Mortuary in Barstow is directing. HELEN MARY ROSE Rialto realdent Helen Mary Rose, 63, of Rialto died Friday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Rose, a native of Blythe, lived in Rialto 26 years.

She was a homemaker for 38 years. Survivors include her husband, Richard her son, Jimmy Becerra of Colton; four daughters, Rebecca Rossell of Ontario, Diana Planellas of Big Bear City, Nancy O'Connors of Rancho Cucamonga and Cynthia Daniels of Rialto; two brothers, Manuel Lei-vas of Blythe and Daniels Leivas of San Bernardino; four sisters, Irene Choumas and Dahlia Em-pante, both of Sun City, Norma Adella of Blythe and Lupe Richardson of Selma; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with rosary at 7 p.m. at Montecito Memorial Chapel, 24145 Barton Road, Loma Linda.

SPRAGUE Bookkeeper Former Lake Arrowhead resident Burrell James Sprague, 76, of Palm Springs died of cardiopulmonary arrest at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. Sprague, a native of Bradford, lived in Lake Arrowhead 26 years. He worked as a bookkeeper, owned Sprague Bookkeeping for 40 years and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; two sons, James and John of Davis; his stepson, Dana Hess of Glendora; two daughters, Stephanie Haga and Cynthia of Washington; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held.

EVELYN EDITH STRACK Secretary Evelyn Edith Strack, 82, of Yucaipa died Sunday of cancer at home. Strack, a native of Cleveland, lived in Yucaipa 18 years. She worked as a secretary for Faith Lutheran Church for six years and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond; her son, David of Yucaipa; her daughter, Linda Heimerl of Glendale; and six grandchildren. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, 12449 California Yucaipa. Interment will be private at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Calimesa. Mt.

CRAIG CREITH Truckdriver Craig "Spike" Creith, 48, of Apple Valley died Monday of cancer at home. Creith, a native of Compton, lived in Apple Valley 10 years. He worked as a truck driver for Interstate Distributors for three years.

He was a member of High Desert Church and the American Motorcycle Association. He was the co-founder of the High Desert Church Cancer Society. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his Patricia; three sons, Aaron, Nicholas and Lucas, all of Apple Valley; his daughter, Wendy Appleby of Placerville; and two grandchildren. Service will be at noon on Saturday at High Desert Church, 14545 Hook Victorville.

MARYDAVIES Corporate secretary treasurer Mary "Lucille" Davies, 83, of Yucaipa died Friday of Parkinson's disease at Braswell's Hampton Manor in Yucaipa. Davies, a native of Mt. Carmel, 111., lived in Yu-c a i a 21 years, San Bernardino 23 years and Fontana 22 years. She worked as a corporate secretarytreasurer at Sierra Escrow for 22 years.

She was a member of St. Frances X. Cabri-ni Catholic Church and was past president of Tau Alpha Tau. Survivors include her husband, Jack; two sons, Dennis of Monrovia and David of San Clemente; her daughter, Barbara E. Park of Yucaipa; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will begin 6 p.m. today followed by vigil at 7 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Chapel, 33629 Yucaipa Boulevard, Yucaipa. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St.

LuVERNE F. HUNSTAD Business co-owner Former San Bernardino resident LuVerne F. Hunstad, 80, of Bermuda Dunes died Saturday at John F. Kennedy Hospital in In-dio. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report.

Hunstad, a native of Aberdeen, S.D., lived in San Bernardino 20 years. She co-owned Harley's Sporting Goods in San Bernardino. She was a member of the Bermuda Dunes and El Rancho Verde country clubs and volunteered as transportation coordinator for the Bob Hope Classic Golf Tournament. Survivors include her daughter, Holly Keaveney of Parker, her sister, Dorothy Gilchrist of Aberdeen, S.D.; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Larson, a native of Forest Township, lived in Highland nine years and Colton 40 years. She worked as a meat wrapper for Stater Bros. Markets for 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Colton. Survivors include four daughters, Elaine of San Bernardino, Joyce Easton of Fawnskin, Carol Kelly of Highland and Patricia of Hermann County; 10 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

24 of a heart attack at Community Hospital of San Bernardino. Lewis, a native of Pittsburgh, lived in Rialto two years. He worked as a custodian at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles for 21 years and at San Bernardino County Medical Center for two years. Survivors include his son, Do-monic of Riverside; two daughters, Arcamia and Daniele, both of Los Angeles; his mother, Evelyn of Rialto; three brothers, De-wain, Ellis Magee and Byron Williams, all of Pomona; four sisters, Gwendolyn of Pomona, Cheryl of Moreno Valley, Tina Stevenson of Colton and Robyn Williams of Diamond Bar; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m.

Via Verde, Covina. IDA MAY MOORE Redlands resident Ida May Moore, 95, of Red-lands died Saturday at Redlands Community Hospital. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Moore, a native of Indian Territory, lived in Redlands 80 years. She was a homemaker for 80 years.

She was a member of the Women's Alter Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a charter member of the Red-lands Bowl Association. Survivors include her brother, James E. Hathaway of San Clemente; and her sister, Nan Hathaway Roper of Manhattan Beach. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 115 W.

Peace, 71, of Banning died Sunday of cancer at home. Peace, a native of St. Louis, lived' in Rancho Cucamonga eight years. He worked as an agricultural inspector for Vlasic Foods in the city of Industry for 27 years. Survivors Include his wife, Norma; his son, George E.

of Beaumont; four daughters, Lori R. Alaniz of Grand Terrace, Carol A. of Greenville, Christine L. of Banning and Kathy L. Manzer of Highland; and eight grandchildren.

Roberson, 88, of Barstow died Saturday at Highland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Roberson, a native of Heflin, lived in Barstow 47 years. He worked as a mail handler for Santa Fe Railway for 30 years. He was a member of Bethel AME Church in Barstow.

He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his son, Warnell of Hanford; his daughter, Diane Roberson-Shewchuk PHYLLIS H. BENSON Music teacher Phyllis Holzwarth Benson, 69, of San Bernardino died Monday ofcancerathome. Benson, a native of Ft. Wayne, lived in San Bernardino 43 years.

She worked as a piano and harpsichord teacher at the University of California, Riverside; the University of Redlands; California State University, San Bernardino; Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa and San Bernardino Valley College, in addition to private studio instruction. She also played at St. John's Episcopal Church, throughout the United States and in Europe. Survivors include her husband, Malcolm; her son, Daniel of San Diego; her mother, Goldie Holzwarth of Visalia; and her sister, Kathleen Holzwarth of Visalia. Service will be at 1 p.m.

Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1407 N. Arrowhead San Bernardino. Interment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery. Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino is directing.

BOWLER Miner August William Bowler, 81, of-Redlands died Monday at home. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Bowler was a lifelong resident of Redlands. He was a self-employed miner for 40 years. Survivors include his brother, Robert of Laguna Niguel.

DANIEL RAY BROOKS Real eatate broker Former San Bernardino resident Daniel Ray Brooks, 45, of Nipomo died Sunday at Arroyo Grande Hospital in Arroyo Grande. The cause of death is unknown, pending a doctor's report. Brooks, a native of San Bernardino, lived in San Bernardino 42 years. He was a self-employed real estate broker for 25 years. He was a member of the Little League Western Regional Tournament Committee.

He was on the board of directors of Nipomo Little League. Survivors include his wife, Anele; his son, Daniel "Tyler" of Nipomo; two daughters, Amada and Sarah of Nipomo; his parents, Doyle and Barbara of Paso Robles; and his sister, Kathi Garrison of Cedar Hill, Texas. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 402 S.

THERESA ANN BROOKS Auditor Theresa Ann Brooks, 50, of Barstow died Sunday of cardiorespiratory arrest at Victor Valley Community Hospital in Vic-torville. Brooks, a native of Louisville, lived in Barstow six years.

She worked as a night auditor for Motel 6 for six years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Willie Price-Brooks of Barstow; four daughters, Stephanie Smith and Kellie, both of Barstow, Mel-anie Woods of Fort Wayne, and Stacie Joy of Colorado Springs, three brothers, John Richard Price Jr. and Keith Price, both of Fort Wayne, and Rodney Price of Louisville; four sisters, Pat Aunt Mary Freshley of Slmi Valley, Rosilund Morgan The Associated Press DALLAS Singer John Gary, who recorded 49 albums including the successful "Catch A Rising Star," has died after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 65.

Services were scheduled Saturday in Dallas with a memorial service in Los Angeles later in the month. Gary died early Sunday at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. At age 11, he won a three-year scholarship to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York as a soprano. Gary performed with Ken Murray's "Blackouts" in Hollywood before temporarily losing his voice.

Returning from the Marines, he became a regular on Don McNeill's Breakfast Club in Chicago, a popular early morning network radio show that thrived in the pre-television era. After his first album, "Catch A Rising Star," was successful, Gary signed a contract with RCA Records. He recorded 24 albums for RCA and 25 other albums for independent labels. Gary was a guest star on numerous television programs including "The Tonight Show," Ed Sullivan and the "Bell Telephone Hour." He was a regular on the "Danny Kaye Show." He also hosted the syndicated "John Gary Show" for three years. In 1991 many of the nation's leading entertainers staged a fund-raiser to raise money for his cancer treatments.

Stars taking part in the benefit included Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Liza Ex-Motown executive dies The Associated Press LOS ANGELES Ewart G. Abner a former president of Motown Records, has died. He was 74. Abner, who helped direct the careers of Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and other artists, died Dec. 27 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of complications related to pneumonia.

At the time of his death, Abner also was executive assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy for his Gordy Co. and an executive vice president of Jobete Music Co. and Stone Diamond Music Corp. He also was vice chairman of the Motown Historical Museum in Detroit. Abner also was a founder of the Black Music Asso- ciation in 1978 and served as executive vice president, according to a statement issued through Warren Cowan publicist for Jobete.

Abner began his music industry career in Chicago in 1948, pressing 78 rpm records for 85 cents an hour. In 1950 he joined Art Sheridan to start Chance Records. In 1954, Abner moved to Vee Jay Records, the first Black-owned, full-line record label, first as general manager and later as president. Gordy brought Abner to Motown in 1967, initially as vice president of international management. He was Motown's president from 1973 to 1975.
