It's with great enthusiasm that I head into this 2003 season, and though I'm sure I've said the same in the past, this year feels quite a bit different.

Unlike previous years, the excitement isn't just for the season ahead, but for the future in general. Rodeo The 2nd Annual Western Canadian Chuckwagon Challenge will be held at Chilliwack Heritage Park, with more than 40 competitors on the track. Action begins Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. There's also a horse show Saturday morning, plus ladies barrel racing Saturday and Sunday at 1 1 a.m.

Stock car racing Kent Raceways will be busy Sunday. Minis, streets, sportsmen and bombers will hit the track at 1 p.m. Baseball The Chilliwack Storm of the Lower Mainland Baseball Association's Over 18 Division will host the Richmond Phillies Sunday at 10 a.m. at Fairfield Island Park. Step one in that process was the name change, moving beyond the name action on Sunday, May 11, for the big doubleheader. It's an all-Northwest affair, as at 4 p.m., the women have their home-opener against Seattle, followed by the men at 7 p.m. against Portland.

Both matches should be very exciting. The women's game will feature the home debut of teenage National Team sensation Kara Lang. She won't be the only international star on display though, as seven players who represented Canada in a recent exhibition game against the U.S. are on the Whitecaps roster this season! On the men's side, the game against Portland will be a rematch from both last year's playoffs, as well the Final of the recent Canterbury Cup preseason tournament held in Abbotsford. The Whitecaps came out on top in all of those previous meetings, and will be looking to do the same again on Saturday.

Call our office at 604-669-WAVE (9283) for more information, or visit: www.whitecapssoccer.com. Bob Lenarduzzi is Director of Soccer Operations for the Vancouver Whitecaps. For Seasons Tickets and Summer Camps, visit www.whitecapssoccer.com, or call 604.669.9283 teams this year, working in conjunction with North Shore Girls Soccer. Step two is all the enhancements that have been made to the stadium and game-day presentation, as anyone who was at the Whitecaps' home-opener on Saturday against Calgary will have already seen. The most striking is the Whitecaps branding of Swangard, with the blue and white team colours, name, and, logo emblazoned all around the stadium.

Fan comfort is also a priority. We've put 500 of the bleacher seats that were previously exposed to the elements under cover. And for anyone who has complained about the wooden bench seats at Swangard, we now offer padded Whitecaps seats and seat-backs both for purchase and for rent. Entertainment too is paramount, and for that we've brought on board John Mitchell, who did such a fantastic job orchestrating the carnival-like atmosphere at last year's FIFA U-19 Women's Championship games at Swangard. The main focus of the games though will definitely be what's on the field.

And that's just as exciting. Both the men's and women's teams have built on their core group of players by adding a number of key signings, and you'll see both squads in Bob LENARDUZZI 'Breakers' and putting everything under a united Whitecaps F.C. banner. This European club model lays the foundation from which everything will grow. We have our Whitecaps Men's and Woman's Teams, playing in the USL A-League and W-League respectively, as well as our four boy's and girl's Whitecaps youth te; ims in the USL Y-League.

We're especially excited to have added the girl's Want your league stats in the Scoreboard?
