Page 4 Plano Star-Courier vVednesday, February 12, 1969 5: SCHOOL Red Cross Volunteers Sigler PTA Attend Special Class Program Set LunC 1 MBflll A six hour orientation class tor volunteers recently recruited by the Collin County Chapter of the American Red Cross was held at the Chapter Hoase, Highway 24, in McKinney on February 4. Ttie class was conducted by Mrs. Herbert Marcus of Dallas and Mrs. Clifford Deaton of Wichita Falls. Both Mrs.

Marcus and Mrs. Deaton are Red Cross volunteers with many years of service. During World War Mrs. Marcus was Captain ofaCliJamobile which served coffee and doughnuts to the soldiers on the front lines, and Mrs. Deaton served as Deputy Commander of the WASPcJ.

Both instructors spoke Informally and alternately in their discussions of the service programs and they not only gave the members of the class structions in volunteer work but they also pve them an insight into the history and philosophy of the Red Cross organization. During the meeting, the class was served a meal prepared by Mrs. Elmo Cloyd, executive secretary of the local Chapter, and her staff. Coffee and doughnuts served in the morningwere followed by the lunch. At the close of the meeting, Mrs.

Lois Trosclair, chairman of the volunteers, presented each member with a card certifying the completion of the Red Cross Basic Training. Mrs. Trosclair expressed satisfaction with the number of volunteers already recruited, and stated that more orientation classes will be scheduled. She said she hopes that Volunteers representing every town in Collin County will enlist in the service programs of the Red Cross. New teaching techniques being used in the field of science in grades 1, 2, and 3 of the Plano School System will highlight the February 13 meeting of the Sigler PTA.

At 7:30 p.m. in the Sigler Cafetorlum, Mr. Bill Holifield, Science Co-ordinator for Plano Public Schools, will present a demonstration at the 2nd grade level of new techniques being used in teaching science in 1st through 3rd grades. Prior to the program, a nominating committee for the election of officers for Sigler PTA 1969-70 will be elected from the floor. Refreshments will be served under the supervision of Mrs.

Wayne Sledge, Sigler PTA Hospitality Chairman. Nationwide programs of research, education and community service are supported by the 1969 Heart Fund Campaign, observed nationally throughout February. The club voted to cooperate with the Association of North Dallas, by entering flower arrangements in the flower shows, which are to be held in the stores of various shopping centers. The planned tour for the entire club to the Dallas Flower Show was changed, due to the change of date of the show.

An announcement was made of the postponement of the Richardson Council Flower Show until fall. Tlie Plano Garden Club is a member of this council, and takes an active part in the annual show. Mrs. Harry Rowlinson, wife of the Mayor of Plano, was a guest at the meeting. The hostesses for the ilay were Mrs.

Robert Forney, Mrs. James Hays, and Mrs. Tliomas Ross. graduate of Allen High School. Her fiance is a student at Grayson County Junior College.

The couple plan a June 14 wedding. Delta Epsilon Has Meeting The February meeting of the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha was held in the home of Mrs. Larry McMenamy. Thirteen members, seven pledges and two guests, Mrs. Charles Beck and Mrs.

Jerry Snailum of Abilene, were present. Mrs. Beck, guest speaker, presented a program on card and fialm reading. At the close of the program, refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Tommy Rogers, Mrs.

Lloyd Rogers, and Mrs. McMenamy. Delta Epsilon members attending the Richardson Area Council meeting on January 27 were Mrs, Les Kaff, Mrs. C. D.

Headen, and Mrs. Roger Harrison. Mrs. Harrison was elected to serve on the nominating committee to the slate of candiiiates for next year. Three local members attended the Red Cross Orientation program held at the McKinney Red Cross office, February 4.

Guest speakers were Mrs. Herbert Marcus Clifford Deaton of Wichita Falls. Mrs. Serly Cloyd, Secretary of the McKinney Red Cross Chapter, was hostess for the event. Delta Epsilon members attending were Mrs.

Eddy Wheeler, Mrs. Jerry Stark, Mrs. Donald Schwartz and Mrs. I.inwood Eggers, a guest. Cox Junior High PTA met Thursday evening, February 6, in the auditorium with Mrs.

Robert E. Chronister, president, presiding. Mrs. Hody Spies, first vice president, presented a short talk on Day which is celebrated by all throughout th country during the month of February. Margaret gave the invocation and Lynn Maxwell led the salute to the flag.

The nominating committee was announced. Members are Mrs. J.W. Maxwell, chairman, Mrs. Larry Wensel, and Mrs.

Ed Logan. The University of Texas at Arlington conferred 575 degrees in winter commencement exercises at 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, in Texas Hall. M. Tate, president of Southern Methodist University, delivered the commencement address. Degrees were conferred by UT acting prsident.

Dr. Frank Harrison. Receiving his BS degree in mathematics was Thomas Valerian Cordner of Plano. Graduates who complete degree requirements in the summer and fall semesters receive their diplomas at winter commencement. Of the duating, 302 completed their degree requirements at the end of the fall term.
