DUPLICATE bridge play took place on Monday, March 7, at the American Legion Hall at 7:45 p. m, on Feb. 21, seven tables were in, play. Winners in east- and-West included first, Mrs. Helen Lalng and Mrs. Jackie Muller; second, Mrs. Marie Kunz and Mrs. Marie Hawcott; and third, Don Priekskorn and Dean Kinsman, In north-and-south, first were Mrs. Vesper Hull of Humboldt and Mrs. Lucille Everds; second, Phil Kerberand Mr. Paul of Etnmetsburg; and third, Mrs. Lucille Hutchison and Clara Zender. MRS. JACK Chrischilles entertained her two-table bridge club last week. Top in scores were Mrs. Don Heramingsen and Mrs. James Kolp. Mrs. Fritz Nielsen was a guest. DAVID HOVEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Hovey, has arrived home on a furlough. He is an air-mechanic. He was to re. turn Saturday, March 5, to report to Fort Rucker, Ala. for further duty. Guests of the Hoveys were their two daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hurst of St. Paul, Minn, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hauck of Humboldt. MR. AND MRS. Russell Buchanan were hosts to their couples bridge club following dinner at the Algona Country Club. Holding high scores were Ted Herbst, first, and his wife, Margaret, in second place. JAMES ABBOTT, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Abbott, spent a weekend here with his parents. Dak. Mike Kain, a junior at Brooklngs, won over a national winner of last year. Mike Hurlbert of Swea City also helped Brookings win 19-11. MR. AM) MRS. Edward Kain and son James of Cresco were dinner guests of coach and Mrs. Warren Williamson at Brookings, So. Dak. before watching a wrestling tournament in which Mike Kain participated for Brookings. WILLIAM F. STEELE, secretary of the Algona Chamber of Commerce, returned recently after spending a week in Iowa City at the University hospitals, where he underwent skin-cancer surgery, March 15 Vote On West Bend School Project The election for the proposed expanded West Bend Community School will be held March 15, on the merger of the present West Bend Community School, Fern Valley Township School District and the portions of the Rodman and Whittemore School District. Voters must vote In their own district. Polling places have been established for voters at the following places. West Bend Community School District - City Hall in West Bend. Rodman Community School District - City Hall In Rodman Fern Valley Township - Home of Mrs. Raymond Kollasdu Whittemore Township - Home of William Baretich. The polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p. m. In order for the election to carry it must pass by a simple majority in each of three of the 4 districts or the portion of the districts involved; in the West Bend District; and an over all simple majority of the entire votes cast in the election.
