LeRoy Brown, lifelong friend of Prof. Turman, will officiate. Death occurred at 11 a.m. Wednesday in a Taft hospital ing a brief illness. He was 93 years of age.

The acknowledged dean of artists, Prof. Turman had gone to Taft two and one-half years ago to make his home with his daughter. Mrs. Ruth Woollen. A native of Graysville, he grad- from historic Merom College (now converted into Merom Institute), attended the University of Pennsylvania, the Chicago Academy of Art and the Chicago Art Institute.

Until the early 30s. the distinguished educator and artist was of the ISTC art department for a period of 40 years. From formation of the Swope Art Gallery in September of 1939. he served as president of the board of managers until he left Terre Haute in 1957. For a time during 1943, he served as gaiierv director until the present director.

Dr. Allen D. Albert, could be named. Widely acclaimed for l.is brush creations in oil, Prof. works won top awards at such exhibits as the Hoosier Art Salon, Indiana Artists Society, Penn Academy of Arts in Philadelphia and Swope Gallery here.

Many of his prize-wining exhibits are displayed in the local gallery. In 1955, the Brown County Art Gallery Association conferred an honorary membership upon him during their fall show and featured his one-man show the following spring. He had extended his interests to the painting of California landscapes in his many visits there before moving. His paintings varied from landscapes to such familiar sights as Terre Haute industrial scenes, a scene winning him the Hoosier Salon award on one occasion. In addition to the daughter, he is survived by a son, Arthur Turman, also of Taft; four sisters.
