Elmer Schwalbe, appearing in native costume of Africa, was guest speaker and talked of the customs and manners of women of Africa. She and her husband were missionaries there from 1936 to 1940, under the British government. The Wood River AAUW will be joint hostess with the Alton chapter for the state workshop lo be Oct. 14 at the Alton YWCA. Mrs.

S. E. Gaboon is local representative. It was announced that the Wood River group ranked second in the slate for Us contribution to the fellowship fund, based on per capita membership. Committee arranging the banquet were Mrs.

Elected Student Council President ROXANA The Student Council of the Roxana School elected Marvin Young, son Of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Young of Central avenue, president at a recent meet ing, which automatically makes him a member of the new council.

Albert Doerr furnished transportation to ant from the park. Chicago Boy Lost on Outing at Starved Rock OTTAWA, May 26. County authorities are seeking 14-year-old Chicago boy missing after a school outing yesterday a Starved Rock State Park. Sheriff Edward T. Ryan said the boy, Carl Ignarski, may have fal len into the Illinois river while trying to climb a cliff wall.

Carl was one of 60 pupils from St. Stanislaus School who came to the park for the picnic yester day. Companions said the bo; last was seen near Lover's Leap a cliff on the south side of the river. H. Pinkerttm Renamed Head of Group WOOD RIVER. J. R. Pinkerton was re-elected president of the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department, at the regular monthly meeting, Thursday night, at which time It was revealed the department responded to three calls during May, the smallest number for some time.

Other officers Six Roxana Students Join Honor Society re-elected were George Groves, vice-president; Ernest Balke, secretary, and Lloyd Dlldlne, treasurer. The group voted to order new uniforms for the department and staged routine business. Two of the calls were made Wednesday of this week. Reynolds Tobacco said big business was an important factor in our winning the war and told how Richard Reynolds started in the tobacco business in 1875 with $7400 and built a business with a net profit of $40,000,000 last year.
