"It all goes back to 1849, to the gold rush and Karl Marx. Since then there has been a constant defiance against anything people will laugh at. (AP)-Mrs. Mae Wheeler, on trial on embezzlement charges, claims the books of the Wotkingmens Building & Loan Association were out of balance by about $377,000 at the end of 1900. She testified to that Thursday in her second straight day on the witness stand. Mrs. Wheeler had testified earlier that the books didn't balance when she first went to work for the association in 19:S8, and she I claimed she juggled figures under orders to make the books balance, j Mrs. Wheeler said there was $377,808 in the association's reserve fund at the end of 1960. She said this was enough to nearly ; balance the books, i Mrs. Wheeler was secrelary-i treasurer of the association until her arrest last March. The state claims she manipulated records to cover a shortage that srew to $460,000. But Mrs. Wheeler denied ever taking any association funds for her own use. i.m. f WEDNESDAY NITI SPECIAL Rigatoni (Meat sauce;, Sue DELICIOUS ITALIAN COOKING Pizza Spaghetti Ravioli Seafood Steaks Chops Call CR 3-4403 Far Toki-Otit Ordtn BEER LIQUOR FANCY IMPORTED WINES AMERICAN LEGION POST 55 MYERSTOWN, PA.
