Former Ledyard Man Passes At Garner LEDYARD - Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at Garner for Joe Steinberg, former Ledyard man. Mr. Steinberg, 68, died at his home following a heart attack. He was born July 9, 1897, near Ledyard to Joseph and Carrie Steinberg; He was married to Mary Nettleton, who survives, along with two daughters and one son, one brother brother, John of Ledyard, and two sisters, Emma, Mrs. Roscoe Mayne of Armstrong, and Mrs. Minnie Jordal of Minneapolis, along with grandchildren, neices and nephews. Burial was at Greene. Attending the services from here we re John Steinberg, John Manthei, John Kramersmeier, Joe Weaver of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Mayne and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Trenary of Armstrong. Name Advisory Groups To Aid Cong. Greigg Congressman Stanley Greigg announced appointment of advisory committees in his district, this week, to act as an on-the-spot task force in connection with several programs developing on the federal level. Named to the Elementary and Secondary Education task force to represent Kossuth county were Joseph Straub, Algona attorney, Father Cecil Friedmann, Garrigan high supt,, Don Blanchard, Sentral school instructor, Lowell Larson, Swea City business man, and Bob Gengler, Whittemore Legion commander. Richard D. Palmer, Algona high instructor, was named to the Educational Advisory Council for Kossuth County, a task force on higher education. Named to the Manpower Development and Vocational Education advisory council was Russ Waller, publisher of the Algona Upper Des Moines. Notes Of I Servicemen USS CAMBRIA - Seaman Apprentice Louis Bleich, USN, son of Mr. Art Bleich of Route 2, Wesley, Iowa, has deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the attack transport USS Cambria. While in the "Med," Cambria will participate in several sixth Fleet and NATO amphibious training exercises. She will also act as the flagship for the amphibious Strike Force, Mediterranean. She is scheduled to return to Norfolk, Va. in mid-June. USS ELDORADO - Electronics Technician Third Class Thomas J. Zaugg, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius E. Zaugg of 322 S, Smith St., Algona, has completed a goodwill visit to Bangkok, Thailand while serving as a crewmember aboard the amphibious force flagship USS Eldorado, now back at Subic Bay, the Philippines. He has opportunities to visit the city's Royal Palace, the Temple of the Emeral Buddha, the Royal Barges aud the Temple of Dawn, . ; , • , . The Eldorado's visit was 'designed to promote goodwill and further friendly relations between the United States and Thailand. The visit also familiarized the crew with the waters In which they cruise, and with the customs and cultures of the people of Thailand. SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - Airman John E. Goecke, above, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Goecke of 1408 E. North, Algona, has been selected tor technical training at Amarillo AFB, Tex., as a ti. S. Air Force chaplain assistant. Airman Goecke recently completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. His hew school is part of the Air Training Command which conducts hundreds of specialized courses to provide technically-trained personnel for the nation's aerospace force. The airman is a 1964 graduate of Garrigan high school - o - U. S. ARMY, EUROPE - Army Specialist Five Eldon L. Hinz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold E. Hinz, LUVerne, took part in Exercise Marne Mauler, an 11 day field training exercise in Germany which ended Feb. 7. Specialist Hinz's unit, Headquarters Troop of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment's 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron, was Algona (la.) Upper DM MdtflM Tuwday, February 15, 1966 with the 3rd Infantry Division during the exercise, held to pro- ride intensive training against an aggressor force, and to train the division to support itself logistically. American, German and French air and ground forces took part. Specialist Hinz, 22, a mechanic with his unit in Germany, entered the Army in April 1963, completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and arrived overseas InDecember 1963. Hinz attended LuVerne Community high school. The children of Mrs, Joe Preston and her sister, Nina Traub, honored her Sunday with dinner at Estherville and were guests at the Marvin Boevers for the afternoon. The occasion noted her birthday. The Ormal Guinns were Sunday guests at the home of her brother and family, the Junior Keslers at Estherville for the birthdays of Brian and Boyd. Marine Sgt. Larry Tennyson spent two weeks with his parents, the Julius Tennysons. He is being transferred from South Carolina to California. Caryl Larsen and her friend, Pat Troolin of Illinois, came Tuesday from St. Olaf College at Northfleld to spend their semester break at the home of Caryl's parents, the Harvey C. Larsens.
