Pollak directed Consumers Union's ground beef study, the results of which were published in the August issue of "Consumer Reports". The report said taste testers couldn't -«««™.^ Calif., division of Emhart Corp. of Bloomfield, Conn., and a major producer of residential locks, thinks a telling statistic >in the report is the 13 per cent increase in daytime burglaries. Bolt said 77 per cent of all burglaries in 1970 involved forcible entry and only six per cent were thwarted. " •SHOWED GAINS Although big cities still accounted for 38 per cent of all, according to the FBI, suburban and rural areas showed a 12 per cent rise. Even Bolt, who has a vested interest in the problem, admits that no home can'be made 100 per cent burglar proof. There are simple, inexpensive ways to d is c o u-r a g e the average amateur burglar, and that's a major part of the problem. About 83 per cent of those arrested for burglary in 1970 were under 25, and there has been a 72 per cent increase in arrests involving burglars under 18. So what can be double-cylinder deadlocks with a key that locks from either side. That way a burglar can't cut the glass and reach in to open the lock. There also are stop locks for sliding windows, wooden double-hung windows -and patio sliding doors that allow one to open them enough for ventilation but prevent further opening or forced entry. OTHER TRIMMINGS In addition, the Safeway spokesman said, "many consumers believe that when you buy ground sirloin you're buying a ground sirloin steak. You're | not." I He said that while ground meat is sirloin, it comes from "the tail and other trimmings off the beef loin." Ground round, the spokesman said,. comes from "trimmings and the heel near the leg bone?' — part of the beef's round but not that used for round steak. Safeway said its new system will label ground beef "regular" (25 to 28 per cent fat, 59 to 69 cents a pound): "lean" (22 to 25 per cent fat, 89 cents); "extra lean" (18 to 22 per cent fat, 99 cents); and "super lean" (15 to 18 per cent fat, $1.29). Safeway said the prices and fat ranges were approximate and might vary slightly from city to city. George A. Pollak, head of Consumers Union's food department, praised the new system as "muci more honest." 1 I SO HURRY IN AND CHICK OUT OUR FALL FASHION SPEC5AL VALUES Bolivia Will Pay $11/2 Millions for Firm's Holdings LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) - The government fixed at $1% million Wednesday the compensation it is willing to pay for nationalized interests of International Metal Processing Corp. of Dallas, Tex.
