Derby tests, Capistrano event load big race day Associated Press The big money will be up for grabs today in the $125,000 San Juan Capistrano, but the big interest Will center on four stakes and an allowance race for 1-year-olds featuring such Kentucky Derby hopefuls ts Reviewer, King of the Castle and Viceregal. A Reviewer and King of the Castle are favored in two $50,000-added stakes— Reviewer in the one-mile Gotham at Aqueduct and the King in the 1%-mile Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. E. P. Taylor's Viceregal, unbeaten in eight starts hi Canada last year, will make his 3-year-old debut in 'a six-furlong allowance race on opening day at Keeneland. OTHER two stakes for 3-year-olds are the $85",000-added Pimlico Stakes over six furlongs at Pirtilico and the $25,000-added, one-mile Gold Rush Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. The San Juan Capistrano, an invitation for 4-year- olds and up over about 1% miles on the grass, drew 10 entries yesterday, with Paul Mellon's Fort Marcy, the 1967 turf champion, the early choice and the highweight at 124 pounds. This is one more pound than the burden assigned to Louis Rowan's and Wheelock Whitney's Quicken Tree and two more than the weights given to Flag Is Up Farm's Petrone and Hasty House Farm's Niarkos, the winner of this race the past two years. OTHERS ENTERED are Barney Lobel's Taneb. 118; Patrick Madden's Pink Pigeon, 117, the only mare in the race; Pierce Doty's Rivet, 115; Kerr Stable's Quilche, 115: Greentree Stable's, the University, 113, and Burt Bacharach's Apex II, 112. Reviewer will be opposed by seven or eight as he attempts to make the Gotham his third victory in as many starts this year. The Bold Ruler colt also won the Swift and the Bay Shore at Aqueduct. Reviewer will carry 122 pounds, the same as Clai borne Farm's Dike, four more than Aisco Stable's Prevailing and eight more than each of the others. OTHERS ENTERED are the Pin Oak Stable entry of Hey Good Lookin and Kanumera, Caesar P. Kim mel's I Found Gold, Osmer S. Deming's Rooney's Shield, Herbert Allen's Distinctive and Locust Hil Farm's Tyrant, who also has been entered in the Pimlico Stakes. King of the Castle is a heavy favorite to beat others and add the Arkansas Derby to his triumph in the Louisiana Derby. King of the Castle will carry 122 pounds, the same as A.H. and Albert Stahl's Foolish Prince; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roberts' Traffic Mark and W. J. Resseguet's Strong Strong. If Tyrant, who has won both of his 3-year-old starts, passes up the Gotham, he will be one of nine in the Pimlico Stakes and will run as an entry with Powhatan's Palauli. 68 MODEL CLOSE-OUT YOWCAMAT 62 The Arizona Republic Pho*nto, Sat., April S, honey!
