Our town is beginning to feel the effects of the dry spell we are dust on Main street is exceedingly unpleasant, and the fast driving along that street is doubly annoying ok that account. Where is our street sprinkler And where is our water company As we are approaching the fall of the year and the heat of summer is over we hope some of these questions of public improvement will be revived again.

We have a plea-iant little town, but in a good many things we need a thorough shaking up. Who among as has the enterprise to lead oft? Some one says it takes grace, grit and gumption, these threi, aud all of these to move our staid old town. The foundation of the Lutheran church is well under way. The Primary Elections for nominating candidates for District Attorney and Director of the Pocr, were held on Saturday last. It was the Hist election held since the adoption of the new system, and while the vote was not large, wo believe there were never as many votes cist at any primary election held heretotore in the county. The Lebanon Cricket Club, next Saturday, will indulge in an excursion to Mt. Gretna. Several games of cricket will b3 played and other attractions afforded. The grand stand at tho base ball grounds, at l'euryn, has been painted and presents a Hue appearance. The grounds are not surpassed anywhere in the State.

Clekk of the Orphans' Court Light issued twenty marriage licenses during August. Since October 1, 1885, when the act went in force, 1,388 licenses have been issued. The People's Building end Loan Association sold 25 loans as follows Three at $27.25 each one at $27 one at $26.50 one at $26 -25; seven at $25.50 each; twelve at 25.25 each. Mk. Gretna, on Tuesday, September 3d. It is believed that the meeting was one of the largest gatherings of United Brethren that ever met at a icunion. young ladies and gentlemen proceeded in a wagon to the home of Elias Illig, at Mlllbacb, and gave his daughter, Minnie, a pleasant surprise. Wenrick, a student in Franklin and Marshal College, will leave to resume his studies on Wednesday next. Palatinate College opened its fall and winter session on Monday. A large number of stndeijts have already arrived and new arrivals are expected daily, during the week. President Schteffer reports the prospects for a large attendance this session very satisfactory. Mr.

John Speicher, residing about 3 miles north of town, will erect a butcher shop this fall. The attendance of soldiers at Gettysburg from this vicininty, next week, will be quite large, nearly every veteran who took part in the battle intending to be present. The Primary election held under the Craw- ford Countyrsystem, last Saturday, proved a graud success and gives entire satisfaction to the Republican votirs.
