6B Ogden Standard-Examiner, Wednesday, October 6, 1971 DAY BY DAY On TV it's Old and New Faces but Mostly Old Plots I was asked one toy not long ago why I never write about television. In a Mndly voice I said, "I don't ' Tenow much . about • the sub-, Meet" to which! [my asking per-j son replied, "A little thing likei that never stopped you be• fore." MIdly miffed, ; I decided to sit' down and watch a few of the programs which are new this season. Right off the bat I had a problem—how to tell which of the shows were new and which were hangovers—I mean holdovers—from previous years. Those half hour programs called "situation comedies" still have, in spite of a few famous faces, too much situation and not enough comedy, and the blaring laughter following remarks which aren't all that funny makes my hair stand on end. EVERY NIGHT Movies are on about every 'night this year, presenting the same problem 'they always have, viz and to wit: how do you know if a movie is going to be worth watching until you watch it, and if it wasn't, where do you go to complain about a wasted two hours? We have a couple of new government men on TV this year doing their bit for sponsor and country (including a mayor who appears to have a lot of spare time) and lawmen, on any show I've seen, spend the first 50 minutes of their hour up to the armpits in hot water, with loose plot ends floating around which —with great derring-do and greater speed—they tie neatly together in the last 10 minutes. I sit through many of those shows—Mission Impossible, for Girl Injured In Accident; Driver Sought Police are seeking witnesses to an accident in which an 11-j year-old girl received slight in-i juries. - I Anna Gross of 511 Douglas was struck by a pickup truck, but not knocked down, as she crossed the street at 28th and Grant Monday afternoon. Patrolman James P. Clemens said the light green truck! turned east on 28th. | Miss Gross was struck in the left shoulder as she tried to move out of the way of the truck. i The truck continued east with- j out stopping. She was treated at St. Benedict's and released.
