11L46 in Stewart County The Proposed State Aid System in Houston County is 5177 miles In Stewart Coynty SUfL After July 1 Houston County will have 22558 miles of roads to maintain while Stewart County win have 34244 Lyle and Cunningham say that they wfll be able to concentrate their wok force on upgrading other deficient roads after the state acquires the roads in the two counties i By David Ross On July 1 the State Highway Department win acquire several miles of roads that currently belong to Stewart and Houston Counties The State rather than the counties will Ir responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the roads after that date In Houston four sections of county roqds equalling 1652 miles will be tuned over to the State Those sections of roads are: lfcEwen High- way to the Humphreys County line ikson County Highway 41 to the Dickson line Highway 49 to the Stewart County Une pnd Highway 1471n--McKinnon to the Stewart County Une In Stewart 315 miles of county roads will become the responsibility of the State These roads are The Indian Mound Road from Red Top Throck- morton Road to the Montgomery County line The Carlisle to Cumberland City Road and Highway 147 from the Houston County line to Highway 71 According to the road engineers in both counties the State's decision to take over these roads will benefit the two highwav and lie who live on the roads the
