Page 18 Freeport (III.) Journal-Standard, Wednesday, July 15, 1975 ' , Namath Signs —With Cosmetics Firm Passing Up Meet Bills Sign Two NEW YORK (UPI) - Quarterback Joe Namath renewed contract negotiations with the New York Jets today, insisting that even a verbal agreement will send him to training camp. "We hope something will break about 4 p.m.," said Jim Walsh, Nam- ath's attorney whp insists that Joe doesn't really need the money in view of his successful football camp for boys and the $5 million contract he signed Tuesday with a cosmetics firm. • "Football has been good to me," Namath said. "But it's a matter of practice, practice, practice. You've got to produce a super effort eeach time and be equipped mentally to handle the job. Thank the Lord I was good enough to play pro ball. If not, I could have wound up in Vietnam and been killed." Last year, Namath played with a shoulder separation and a pulled ham- string muscle. The medics have assured Joe he'll be heading into training camp in one of his healthiest states in years. "We're coming off six straight wins and that jdoes a lot for your confidence," Namath said. "There were uncertainties last year, but now we know we can beat everyone. "I want to play and if I get the right signals in negotiations Wednesday, my lawyer can take it from there." Jr ' Namath's new job with the cosmetics company is consultant in the firm's national and international sports pro' grams and promotions. He will make a minimum of $250,000 a year for the next eight years and has a pair of six- year options to continue in that position at the same salary. CLEVELAND (UPI) - Filbert Bayi of Tanzania, the mile world record holder, and American star Rick Wohlhuter, the half-mile champion, are not expected to run in the U.S.-Africa Track and Field Meet next week. It was learned Tuesday that Bayi has malaria and that Wohlhuter may not compete, leaving Wilson Waigwa of, Kenya, who has run the mile in 3:55.6,' as the^only top distance runner in the meet at Baldwin-Wallace College in suburban Berea, Ohio. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (UPI) The National Football League Buffalo Bills signed two first-year players Tuesday, a team spokesman said. Signed were 13th round draft choice Mark Dienhart and free agent Bobby Pridger. Dienhart, of St. Thomas College in Minnesota, is a 6-2, 248-pound offensive lineman. Pridger, who lives in the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga, played his college football at Federal City College. He is a'5-9, 172-pound wide receiver. How do you measure real, food savings ?
