Accusations of ageism confronted by both Hello. My name is Margaux Wosk.

I am 16 years old. In the late afternoon of October 5, 1 went to the Lucky Loonies Dollar Store with my 12 year-old-neighbour and I was asked to hand in my grocery bag by the sales clerk behind the desk. My neighbour gave hers to the clerk no questions asked. I was pretty appalled. Here were these people in their 30s and up, walking in with gianormous bags and they were not asked to be temporarily confiscated.

I was extremely upset! I held my bag. Budged right in the front of the line, bought my batteries, and left immediately. It's absolute ageism. I mean sure, it doesn't help that I was wearing all black or that I have a nose ring and green hair. But I still was so upset I walked out and heard two women go "That's so rude!" I don't know if they were referring to me or the clerk.

I'm sorry, but teens in Chilliwack have a terrible rep. A little over two months ago I moved here from Vancouver which is barely even agist. I was literally sick to my stomach when that woman at the dollar store gave me such attitude. I have never smoked pot, gotten drunk or done recreational drugs in my entire life. Nor would I ever steal.

I think something has to be done about this. Sure store owners and clerks have to be cautious, but no one in their right mind has to be so incredibly rude. Yours Truly, Margaux Wosk Elizabeth Kullman, a clerk at the Lucky Loonies Dollar Store in Southgate Shopping Centre, invited 16-year-old Margaux Wosk to revisit the outlet for a chat after the teen had felt discriminated against for her age and dress during an earlier shopping excursion, jennahauck progress HIDDEN FORTUNE Response Play 4 Times Daily! 4 sessions all day -everyday Doors open 10am Games start at Separate smoking room available. No access to minors when this happens, the store suffers. Elizabeth also explained that it is never store policy to discriminate by age or appearance.

In fact, Lucky Loonies Dollar Store enjoys the patronage of six or seven customers who choose to dress as Margaux does. The conversation ended with an invitation from both the store owner, Jenny Lee, and her clerk to our distressed and embarrassed letter writer to revisit the outlet, introduce herself and have a friendly chat about the practical and economic necessity of such precautions as leaving parcels at the door while shopping. ftniTTrr- 1 Work In Progress called the downtown Lucky Loonies Dollar Store and spoke with the clerk on duty. Elizabeth Kullman explained that, as the store is small, bags especially backpacks can easily knock things over. When this happens and the person knocking the items down refuses to pay for what he or she has broken, the store is out of pocket.

Of course there are unfortunately, some people who do shoplift and, as the items are small, they are easily taken. Again, 10-04WCB8 -Sfcttfth- HP Live on Stage!
