Nine bid* for the sate of the $3,174,500 In school bouse bonds voted in May were leceitpd at the meeting. The board accepted the low bid submitted jointly by the First National Bank of DaOa*. the First National Bank of Fort Worth. Goldman. Sachs, and Co.. and E. S Hutlon and Co., Inc., which quoted an effective Interest rait of 4.«mo per cent A tentative budget for 117374 was submitted to the board for approval A public hearing on the budget will be held at the regular meeting July t. O'Quinn reminded trustee* that the budge! wwM have to be altered considerably if and when consolidation with Manvel becomes effective. Finance director L. $. Williams pointed out that, with tSOO,00» in stale money being cut back due to the new local funds assignment, the school district was forced to dip heavily into the surplus fund and to raise the taie* to balance the budget The revised tax rate will be C,« on a $10,000 oiece of property, an increase of four cents on $100. Williams also noted that the largest increase in the district's expenditure to in teachers' salaries, due to the normal raises in pay and the hiring of additional instructors for the new vocatlonal-techaical center tn special education ciaste*. The vocational-technical center was declared "substantially complete" at the meeting The bid for landscaping it was awarded io Hans Peterson Nursery and many more bid* were awarded for (he purchase of suppliea and equipment. In his report to Ihe board. O'Quinn stated that a letter was being sent to tax assessor collector Max Vegan concerning the new tax increase, informing him of the reasons for it.
