SPOTTED LIKE DARK, DAMP PLACES, AND SOMETIMES ARE FOUND IN CELLARS OF HOUSES. SALAMANDERS LAY THEIR EGGS IN CLUSTERS. MOST OP THEM SPEND THEIR YOUTH IN WATER., BUT LEAVE IT AT MATURITY ONLY TO RETURN AT EGG- LAYING TIME. THEIR. GILLS DISAPPEAR, WHEN THEY BECOME ADULTS, AND MOST SPECIES DEVELOP LUNGS. ,OR. HELLBENDER, WHICH GROWS TO A LENGTH OF 18 INCHES, STAYS IN WATER ALL ITS LIFE.
