"FSrst time I've ever been inside a new house, leastwise ever staying in one myself," Mrs. Sigley said. "It's the finest place I've ever stayed in." A grin crossed her 24-year-old husband's face as he, their two children, Larry, 4, and Rebecca 3, stood outside their new abode Inside, Mrs. Sigley, 21, ran her hands over the new stove, inspected the sink with faucets and bounced lightly on one oi the four beds. "It's sure one of the oddest looking places I ever did see," she said. And it was. This is a real who-done-it: Who managed to crack the super-secret list of names of a research company's audience sample and ask about 33 families on it to comment on the commercials of a single show? The A. C. Nielsen Co. which reported to clients that its "security" had been breached, will identify neither the program | involved nor the suspects. But it did say about 6 peri cent of its sample of 590 families had received a questionnaire requesting comment on the commercials of a program broadcast between 8:30 and 9:30 {p.m. on Friday. Feb. 18. Network shows being broadcast at that time were Carol Channing's special on CBS; 'The Sammy Davis Jr. Show" on NBC, and "The Addams Family" and j "Honey West" on ABC. In its bulletin to clients, the Nielsen company said it had excluded all contacted homes from the statistics on which audience estimates are based. Each family in the Nielsen sample is chosen the company says, because its viewing choices are supposed to be typical of thousands of others. Thus comment on the content of a specific show, they might tune in a program they would otherwise ignore. This, of course, could weight the ratings—a matter of intense concern to i Nielsen, the networks, sponsors and even the Federal Trade Commission. Danny Thomas has decided to withdraw a series set for NBC's Saturday night line-up next season: "My 15 Blocks." The osten- jsible reason is Thomas' puzzling , unhappiness about the show's i position—after "Flipper" and before "Get Smart." This lovely pot between two hit shows is ailed a "cradle position" in the trade, the best of aE possible >caticns. The real reason, according to nformed trade sources, is that he first show in the comedy eries turned out to be a disas- er. NBC convinced Thomas r ho had a firm commitment, hat it would be wiser to pull ou1 ban risk hurting the excellent atting average of Thomas' production company.
