Ann Landers says Alton Evening Telegraph Wednesday, Dec. 30,1970 A4 DEAR ANN: I'll bet every farmer in the United States and Canada is mad at you. Your advice to ''Wffllfton, N.D.," whose did' dKWHtol the five kittens was reatty bad. You told the s&d young girl that her daddy should have taken the kittens out in the country and given them to a farmer. Do you have any idea how many cats and dogs are dumped on farmers every day because of City idiots like you? At one time we had 13 cats. Where did they come f r o-m? Urban apartment dwellers who drove out-in theft cars," opened^ the doors .and tunned the poor things loose, cats are not self supporting, you know. They must be fed. farmers have to buy their groceries in the supermarket just like city people, so please, Ann Landers, don't perpetuate the myth that every farmer is glad to have 1 "one more mouser." It isn't so.-A CAT * ASTROPHY NO MATTER HOW YOU SPELL nv DEAR CAT: I received hundreds of letters from farmers who expressed precisely the same point of view. Please accept the apologies of this City idiot. ..-, •-'**.* p DEAR ANN: Several weeks ago you printed a letter from Dr. William Center of San Antonio, Texas. He described the value of breast self e x a m i n a t i o n arid urged women to write for the American Cancer Society's free booklet on the subject. Would you like to know what happened? Our lives have not been the same. The Honored on 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Abe Fishman of 2624 Judson Avenue were honored at a surprise dinner at Hotel Stratford Sunday, Dec. 27 in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of 3 sons: Bernard and Jack of St. Louis and Stanley of Oklahoma City, Okla. There are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sporty, New Set 740 the poor things loose. Farmers headipattew of the American cancer Society ft New York received nearly a quarter of a ffiffltofl requests, this meant added help, added shifts, a tremendous postage tfffi ftffd fry unlimited. We are not complaining, Ann — we love it. Because of that column dozens (maybe hundreds) of lives will be saved. We hope you will publish this letter of gratitude. And please, Ann, tell your readers who have hot yet sent for the free booklet that they may obtain one by getting in touch with their local unit of the American cancer Society, tt is listed in the phone book.-* Top Fltottery! PRINTED PATTERN JOSEPH CLARK, DIRECTOR OP PRESS. DEAR MR. CLARK: Your letter made my day. Thanks for writing. BEAR ANN: I am a 16 year - old girl with a problem I can't talk to anyone about. My older Bister is So and not martleC She lives abUK lf» miles from here. Rosemary moved out of the house about a year ago to take a cashier's job in a restaurant. (My folks were against it.) i have reason to believe that Rosemary has had a baby within the last month. She has always been overweight and could have been pregnant without showing anything. When 1 saw her eight weeks ago she was wearing a smock which she always wore to work, so 1 didn't think anything of it. My question is, should I say something to my parents? I am almost positive my hunch is correct. If your sister did give birth she obviously did not keep the child, so there is nothing to e fe l e b r.a t e . Exposing her secret would serve no useful purpose. 1 repeat: keep quiet. I know of several college girls who have bought them just to use for stacking sweaters and other clothing when dorm space is limited. Use in the bathroom to hold towels and wash cloths and for holding dust rags, polish, etc., in a storage area. Hung low in a little one's room he can use it for clothes storage, toys or as a dirty clothes hamper. In the linen closet they are great f o r stacking pillowcases, small blankets and comforters. — SANDl. DEAR POLLY and GLENDA — When my son outgrew his diaper stacker. 1 used if for his small books. He can easily remove them and then put them away. He is now four and his "hook stacker" is still very much in use.—KARLA. Today's Problem DEAR POLLY - The feathers in my down - filled conforter slide to the edges and leave the center thin. Can someone tell me how to prevent this? —MRS. H.R. DEAR POLLY - Valuable space can be saved by hang- Ing that seldom-used phone book on a coat hanger in the closet. If you have trouble with food in the freezer sticking to its walls keep your food in a dish drainer. If you cannot keep track of your door stops, use some of those shoe horns that are probably lying around the house. They can be bent for a better fit. Hang a ball of twine on the wall by bending a wire coat hanger so the hook slips up through the opening in the center of the ball. If you have trouble finding your thimbles, glue some fairly big corks to the side of a drawer in your sewing cabinet. Slip the thimbles over the corks and always know where they are. In my spare time I do a lot of painting and after I few weeks' use my paintbrushes started to get out Of shape. Now I clean a brush and shape it by cutting a V- sbape in a plastic or paper cup. put brush cleaner in the cup and take the brush through the V cut to keep it in shape and clean it at the same time- WAYNE.
