ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — It's that time in the season when most of the clubs are just playing out the string, marking time until the final bell. The Oakland Athletics, however, are not among those who have thrown in the towel. "Our dugout hasn't gotten that firea up since I've been here," Athletics manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday night after his club got a dramatic, ninth-inning three-run homer from Jose Canseco to beat the Texas Rangers 6-5. "When Canseco hit it, the whole team was on its feet, they were all up." The victory, which snapped Oakland's four-game losing skid, moved the Athletics into an American League West second-place tie with Kansas City, 3 1-2 games behind the front-running Minnesota Twins. Canseco's homer off Rangers relief ace Dale Mohorcic was one of four the Athletics hit during the game. Rookie sensation Mark McGwire hit two, his 44th and 45th, and Terry Steinbach chipped in with a pinch- hit homer that started the Oakland comeback in the eighth. Rangers catcher Don Slaught hit two homers, also, his seventh and eighth of the season. The two-run lead dissolved o,uickly in the top of the ninth when Carney Lansford drew a leadoff walk off Rangers reliever Steve Howe and Brian Harper followed with a pinch-hit single. That brougth Mohorcic out of the bullpen looking for his 17th save. &ut after getting two quick strikes on Canseco, Mohorcic served up the home run ball. e 3 o 4 3 2 3 2 0 2 3 1 3 2 0 2 3 1 3 5 1 4 0 Earl?
