I he Sun SATURDAY, January 21, 1995 Octogenarian fitness guru dies Obituary The Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO Walt Stack, one of the early and best-known apostles of the fitness movement, has died. He was 86. Stack was a familiar figure to San Francisco Bay area residents, who saw him shuffling bare-chested across the Golden Gate Bridge every morning or swimming in the bay underneath in his bright red cap, part of a grueling exercise regimen that was the stuff of local legend. Stack died of natural causes Wednesday at a board and care home, family members said. Stack began bay swimming in the late 1960s at age 58 then took up running after reading several articles touting its health benefits.

He began flying homemade gliders in 1910 at 13, and four years later made his first solo powered flight in a Curtiss Type Flying Boat. He took off and landed on the Connecticut River near Hartford. the Army's program of moral and physical rehabilitation and can assist in promoting, supporting and becoming involved in local projects. This group would meet once a month and discuss the issues facing the Salvation Army in various cities throughout San Bernardino County.

Then he jumped into the bay for a half-hour swim. By the age of 80, Stack figured he had put in 62,000 miles 2'2 times around the earth and enough to wear out 35 pairs of running shoes per year. During his lifetime, he ran in nearly 200 marathons; 15 50-milc events and three 100-mile runs, including the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon after the age of 70.

MARGUERITE BOILEAU Sportswear shop owner Marguerite Boileau, 7(i, of Ocean Hills died Wednesday of ovarian cancer at home. Boileau. a native of Sioux City, Iowa, lived in Lake Arrowhead lift years. She was an owner and operator of Fay Boileau's Sportswear in Lake Arrowhead and Blue Jay years. She was a charter member of Soroptimist International of Lake Arrowhead and for two years was president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Lake Arrowhead Country Club.

She helped qualify the club's membership in the Women's Southern California Golf Association. Survivors include her husband. Fay; two daughters, Linda Taylor of Detroit, and Sharon Allen of Chicago; two sisters, Jeanne Zander of Ocean Hills, and Moni(ue Gaskill of San Marcos; and four grandchildren. MICHAEL F.RITTER Redlands resident Michael F. Ritter, 29, of Red-lands died Thursday of cancer at home. Ritter, a native of Lynvvoocl, lived in Redlands 17 years. He was a sales manager with TCI Cablevision for five years. He earned a degree in business administration from California State University, San Bernardino.

Survivors include his wife, Janie his mother and stepfather, Mary and Rich Retterer of International Falls, his father, Francis, and his brother, Steve, both of Huntington Beach; his half-brother, John Steffens of Yucaipa; his stepbrother, Todd Retterer of International Falls, and his grandparents, Earl and Jo Retterer of Aurora, 111. The Associated Press TORRANCE Early aviator Percival "Sperice" Spencer, who made his first solo flight in 1914 and was a licensed pilot through 1987, has died. He was 97. Spencer died in his sleep Sunday night at Del Amo Gardens Convalescent nursing home. In 1986, at age 89, he was honored by the Early Birds of Aviation, a society whose membership is restricted to those who Settlement delayed in breast surgery suit VICTORVILLE A settlement in a medical malpractice suit against two Apple Valley physicians has been continued to Feb. 8 in Victorville Superior Court.

Former Victorville resident Paula Sanford, 31, who claims breast reduction surgery has left her disfigured for life, is seeking $500,000 in damages from Dr. Rahul Thacker and his wife, Dr. Swati Thacker. Attorneys Maria Aarvig of Riverside and Bill Ritner of San Bernardino, who represent the physicians, say the allegations are unfounded. A jury trial is tentatively scheduled for March 6 in Victorville Superior Court if no settlement is reached or the allegations are not dismissed, said Attorney Terry Goldberg of En-cino, who represents Sanford.

New superintendent to arrive today BARSTOW City and county officials will welcome the superintendent of the new Mojave National Preserve and his staff at a public reception today at the Holiday Inn, Main Street and Interstate 15. The reception, hosted by Citizens for Mojave National Park, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Among the speakers will be preserve Superintendent Marvin Jensen, formerly superintendent of Glacier Bay National Preserve in Alaska. Peter Burk, president of the citizens' group, said the National Park Service plans to open its administrative headquarters for the preserve at the Mercado Mall in downtown Barstow in about a month.
