The Globe Democrat has a special from Benton, Franklin county, Ills, which says: For sometime past a body of men disguised in Ku Klux style, going over the country, whipping peaceable citizens, and compelling them to perform any act they may dictate. Up to this time, in both Williamson and Franklin counties the citizens have tamely submitted to these outrages, but vesterdav, J. it- JMaaaox, one oi the county commiswoners, received in formation that some of the marauders would visit his house and whip him for not obeying some orders they had given to him.

Maddox informed the sheriff, J. T. Mason, who summoned a posse of twenty men, and secreted themselves at Maddox's house, well armed. About 2 o'clock last night the Kuklux, fourteen in number, made their appearance on horse-; back disguised in white robes, high, white hats and masks, and armed with shot guns and pistols. They stepped out when they came to the house and ordered them to turrender.

'The leader of the band drew his pistol and fired at the sheriff, missing him. The sheriff and posse then cried halt, when the band shot at them, wheeled their horses, and attempted to escape.
