A. Hudson, A. Phillips and Jas. Goode, representing the city erf Pecos, by which the road was guaranteed a bonus of $75,040 under certain stipulations, for the building Into this city from "Texico or Tucumcari, N. bv way of Knowles, N.

The railroad Is to maintain shops, roundhouse and general offices in this city, and to be completed for a distance of 99 miles north from Pecos, in the vicinity of Knowles, N. by within 18 months. A preliminary bond of $1000 is provided In the contract to guarantee the raising of the bonus and compliance with the terms of it by M. J. Healy, representing the railroad.

The road Is projected between Pecos and Dawson Fields, Colorado, on the New Mexico-Colorado state line. The first construction is to occur between Pecos and Knowles, N. and the distance between the two towns, approximately 90 miles, is to be the first to be built, the time limit being 18 months. When this road is built It will give Pecos a larger number of railroad oat-lets than any city in Texas west of Fort Worth except El Paso, and will give the whole lower Pecos valley and the South Plains a new and more direct line to north Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas City. E. Stratton and Dean D. Clark, officials of the Tri-State Telephone company, with headquarters at Bl Paso, are In Pecos in connection with a vast amount of new development gwork about to be undertaken by this company, which includes practically the rebuilding of the exchange In this cHjr. on which work has been in progress for several months. The company also plans building a line from.

Pecos to carisoaa. N. there connecting with the company's Roswell-Denver line; connecting up with Dallas and Fort Worth Southwestern Telephone company's lines at Midland, and practically rebuilding the various small systems purchased in the Pecos valley and In the vicinity of Alpine and Marfa. An appropriation of more than has been made for this work, and for the first time in its history the Pe cos vallev will e-et direct telephone connections "with El Paso and north Texas. The work will be well under way within the next 60 to 90 days.

Officials of the Wells-Fargo Express company announce that they will construct their own building here, erecting one of concrete and brick and locating it on the Texas Pacific rightofway on First street.

The building will be built immediately adjoining the city park and the park will lie between the new station and the Wells-Fargo building. IMPROVEMENTS ARE PLANNED AT MIDLAND Midland, Texas. Dec. 19. A.

S. Whlt-tingtpn. superintendent of the Rio Grande division of the Texas Pacific Railroad company, made a thorough inspection of the yards and terminals at this point. Mr. Whittington stated that it was the intention of the Texas Pacific to spend considerable money In improving their property adjacent to the station at Midland.

New sidewalks will be laid around the station and other improvements made. THREE NEW HOUSES BUILT IN ALPINE Alpine, Texas, Dec 19. Mary P. Hall is building a new residence on the land which she recently purchased from W. F.

White, of ths place. The W. N. Gourley residence In the eastern part of town is progressing. Mr.

Tut-tle. chief of the local staff of physicians of the Copper Queen company, has left for NewTork, where he will wed Miss Rae, on December 27. The bride Is the sister of chief auditor Robert Rae of the Copper Queen, and has visited In Douglas for several seasons. A cleanup of the hoboes is in pro gress. Santa Claus visited the El "aso public schools Tuesday arid was entertained by the children and received with loud acclaim. Parents of the children attended many of the exercises. At some of the schools the children, following the custom of Thanksgiving, took presents for the poor and these are to be distributed through the charitable organizations of the city. Following are the programs rendered at the various schools: VILAS SCHOOL.

The Misses Kate Adams and Wlnnl-fred Roe, teachers at the Beall school, entertained the pupils, parents and friends of their grades, respectively, high second and low third, with a ster-eopticon entertainment Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon. A small admission fee was charged to raise money for pictures for their rooms. IALAMO SCHOOL. Miss Maria Gallagher, principal and the several teachers of the Alamo school arranged a Christmas tree, the gifts being distributed Tuesday.

FRANKLIN SCHOOL. A Christmas tree and all that goes with it were prepared by. the-principal. Mrs. Eunice Payne, and the teachers of the Franklin school for the entertainment of the pupils Tuesday morning.

THE GIRLS' SCHOOL. The El Paso School for Girls will give a Christmas play at Keadrick hall, the parish house of St Clement's Episcopal church, Wednesday afternoon, December 20, at four oclock. to which all friends of the school are invited. This annual Christmas play is planned chiefly for the intermediate department and given almost entirely by the younger girls with only a little help from the upper school. The kindergarten' at tle Sunset school held Its Christmas entertainment Tuesday morning to which the parents and friends were Invited. As It is a little early for Santa Claus and the usual Christmas tree, a large wreath suspended from the celling, by strands of scarlet ribbon had been planned in its stead each small gift tied with tinsel -OMrds hung from the wreath. The little ones sang songs appropriate to the season, during the morning. LAMAR SCHOOL. The Lamar school kindergarten held a similar entertainment during the afternoon.
