That there might be no escape for either -on ax technicality should this charge prove wrong, James Young, the other twin," was charged with being an accomplice.V Since one of the twins shot down the officer in cold blood each has vehemently accused his brother Lof having sped the bullet, while most of the witnesses have declared that ThomasV was guilty The curious: likeness which the brothers bearto each other has complicated this phase of the case. District, Attorney Langdon. took personal charge of the prosecution case before the Jury.

After Coroner Leland had read his charged Langdon defined the meaning of "principal" in a murder "accessory" and He declared that James Young 'could not. be. called -an accessory, but could be charged as an accomplice, and after brief deliberation the Jury coincided: In this' view. TEXTS FAIL TO PAY RESTAURANT'S BILLS Puritan Company's Affairs Now in Hands of Board of Trade Committee date modern restaurant can be conducted along lines suggested by biblical and churchtideals and still remain a success 'in' a business way is a question that seems about' to be settled in. the negative, so far as the Puritan restaurant; company; of this -city, which controls three is concerned.

The affairs of" the restaurant company' last, week; were over to a committee from the board of trade at a special of that at which tho members' were petitioned; for an extension in time in the payment of certain debts that were hanging over the, company; A meeting of the committee was, held and another'soon will to decide what shall be the fate' of "the restaurants. The sums pressed by creditors are' said to total nearly $50,000, which the company declares itself unable to meet. NOTiWHOIiIiY A SUCCESS to the creditors, the Puritan idea has not been an undlsputable business success as a 1a 1 demonstration of how' tor run: restaurant. It was started by George who originated the church idea nine years ago. Most of the members of the corporation are church members.

W. R. Goodbody, the present; manager, was brought up as a Quaker. One of the features of the restaurant. In addition to the quality food served, has been the biblical hung in frames along the walls.

Here Is one of them: "What doth It profit a man If he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" "That is the snag against which Goodbody and the company have thrown themselves, according to the creditors. They haven't been so heedful of. making money as they have, of serving a hungry man with good food. This creed, say the creditors, has not proved a success as a proposition of CHAPEL FOR WAITRESSES Before the fire waitresses at the restaurant were required to attend' religious services stated times every day In a little chapel that was provided for them. This hasn't been required of late, but.

girls coming- fTom church families have been given the preference! in "employment the restaurant closes religiously from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday. Manager iGoodbody; stated, yesterday that he hoped. to revivify the enterprise with "outside capital and that a deal was. on for bringing additional stock holders Into, the firm. declared that his financial difficulties were brought about by; expenses of refitting after the lire and by, the financial.

depression. At present, under the direction of -the committee from the board of trade, the three Puritan restaurants, one In Market street, one in Fillmore and the third- in the Mission, are being, conducted without any noticeable change In and the fate of an experiment in eoonomlcs hangs in the balance.
