correspondence of the Greensboro iDailv News of De cember 8 1918 Dr Archibald Hen derson was spoken of as one of the men being favorably and prominently mentioned for the presidency of the University of North Carolina The question of the choice of a successor to the late Edward Graham is one of vital concern to every citizen of the state The ability and qualifications of those best fitted for the position should be made public so that in the light of the facts the wisost choice may eventually be made by the trus tees I am giving below some of the reasons why in my judgment Archi bald Henderson should be and seriously considered by tees for the presidency of versify of North Carolina Since his graduation at versify at the head of his 20 years uninterruptedly he has been a member of the university faculty He was probably closer to the late President Graham than any other member of the factulty and was fully conversant and in sympathy with Gra policies In principle and conduct he is thoroughly democratic and is whole heartedly committed to the view that the university should serve all the people of the state After all the matter of paramount import ance for the trustees to consider is the fact that the policies inaugurated ty the lamented President Graham have been heartily endorsed by the people of North Carolina And the man who is probably best acquainted with those policies by person and professional association with him and therefore best qualified to inter pret them to the people of the state and carry them on is Archibald Hen derson ew in the people for North Carolina he has remained at Chapel Hill while others have wandered to other states lie has de voted his life without' thought self to working? in and for North Carolina I He is the citizen of North Carolina among those mentioned for the presi dency of the university with the greatest reputation cutsidc the bounds of the state The'records indicate that he is the most versatile man literature
