San Lula Obispo County (Calif) TELEGRAM-TRIBUNE Saturday December 10 1994 B-5 More letters KSBY owner says column left much to be desired chief photographer Kelly Teel and our assignment editor John ZuchellL Sharon Graves and Kimberly Maus are also under contract The insulting remarks about the station's commitment to Rick Martel do not deserve comment The Telegram-Tribune did not have the simple courtesy to contact either Rick Martel or Sandra McKeller our news director We are honored to be a part of the San Luis Obispo community and realize that KSBY would be nothing without our viewers Our goal is to always strive for a better news product and to retain what makes us the dominant station in the market All of the changes we have made to date are with that goal in mind We will be launching our new show "Live at on Dec 19 and ask that the issue of the continuing quality of KSBY1! local news be settled in the only legitimate arena the home of the viewers Elizabeth Murdoch KSBY owner was by KCOY At what price we ask? Mr Libby and EP Communications agreed to position his departure as a restructuring which is what it is This incident was in no way to the staff We are proud of the strength of KSBY and respect its status as a public trust for local news and information We understand that its greatest assets are a hard-earned reputation for solid objective news and on-air talent who have a relationship of trust and respect with the viewer These assets cannot be created overnight and trust betrayed is difficult to retrieve If Mr Eddy had spoken with anyone but disgruntled former employees perhaps he would have reported that Lynn Diehl a wonderful journalist and our much-loved anchor recently signed a long-term agreement with KSBY as has Tony Clpolla who joins our 5 o'clock anchor team Dec 19 In addition we also have signed contracts with two producers our To the editor: Your Dec 7 column in transition" is a commercially motivated attempt to embarrass a competitor for advertising dollars A play on the fears of viewers and local advertisers should not be presented in a newspaper cloaked in the legitimacy of Investigative All the issues that columnist David Eddy raised were addressed in the Telegram-Tribune article of Nov 5 After that article ran Mr Pianim spoke with Mr Eddy for the better part of an hour and answered in detail all of his questions Despite this the resulting article was rife with material misstatement: Jeanette Trompetcr left KSBY before we acquired it on Sept 22 Upon the receipt of her job offer from the Midwest she attempted to contact us to discuss remaining at KSBY when we took control She was instructed not to contact us by the then-station manager Mark Libby Steve Brody was not on the payroll of KSBY and thus not an employee It is interesting that a man who was willing to work for free and who we were unwilling to use gratis The band's spirit of community cooperation and kindness was truly inspirational Our hearts go out in thanks to the San Luis Obispo County Band! with about 20 other little dancers from Creative at "Christmas in the Plaza" on Saturday Dec 3 Unfortunately a brief rainstonn came through about two hours before the scheduled performance and the event was canceled with no time to notify anyone The girls all showed up in costume and were left very disappointed some even in tears The rain had stopped but there was no stereo system to play their dance music The San Luis Obispo County Band which had alsc showed up was playing nearby Knowing that show must go the dance instructor cajoled the band leader into playing the Christmas songs for the dance programs In a gesture of goodwill w'hich will not soon be forgotten the band set forth without benefit of rehearsal and helped realize the dancers' dreams Let the countries of origin pay costs To the editor: Proposition 187 has certainly caused a stir and with good reason: it's short-sighted and detrimental to our state and nation I have not heard one well-thought-out alternative to the ills that Prop 187 attempted to address Most solutions require increased government either as a funding source or bureaucratic monitor Here is a novel thought take the onus off the US to act as or other governments to police their illegal immigration in tact amend NAFTA to include a provision for remuneration for education medical care and social services for illegal immigrants Countries would be assessed fees based upon documented evidence that services were rendered These fees would be collected annually If a country were unable to pay territorial land acquisition would be 'the alternative payment made at five-year intervals You can be assured governments would then actively monitor their own borders while we would enjoy healthy well-educated workers and friends David Jeffrey San Luis Obispo Joining forces for an important goai To the editor: The recently formed San Luis Obispo County Health Commission is faced with a great many challenges in our collective near future Not the least of them is achievement of the People objective to immunize 90 percent of the county's children by two years of age The commission is informed that efforts to accomplish this have included the development of partnership between the County Health Agency's Immunization Program and county businesses and organizations Together this coalition of public and private sector leadership
