I Treatment Of Statue Angers The Carpenters Enter a Protest at the Signs Placed Upon Statue In the Plaza. Carpenters of union 4ZS have entered a vigorous protest at covering Liberty statue, erected by union labor of the city, with signs so that the architecture is hidden and the general outline is spoiled. Resolutions adopted by this body are as follows: Be it resolved that we enter a protest against the disfiguring of the Liberty statue by concealing the architectural beauty thereof by covering It with sentimental paintings, and also being made to show as an advertising billboard for a business concern of our city which is not friendly even to organized labor. "Whereas all the labor on this building and the material therefore was donated by union labor and it friends, through patriotic motives, for the promotion of the war work in our city, and to assist in carrying to a successful conclusion this terrible war In which we are engaged, as a body of union men we feel It our duty to enter this protest In the behalf of our organization, which so cheerfully donated the carpenter labor on this beautiful monument. "TVe also protest in behalf of the architect for the lack of consideration shown him In this connection.

Wo further feel that our patriotic efforts are being trampled in the dust by those who would place the profits to their own credit. "None would have ventured the thought during the construction of this monument or at the dedication thereof that In so short a time we would see it converted Into a four sided billboard. To us the concern that; erected these signs has but one mean ing and that is "unfairness to union labor" and a depreciation of the mo- tives under which we completed our work. 1 "Passed by a unanimous vote of carpenter's local union No. 435, in reg ular session, Nov.
