in his yard in the northeastern portion of the city Registration List Contains 8000 Names The Journal publishes this morning the list of registered voters for Escambia county as prepared bv Supervisor Goss The list is by far the largest that has ever existed It contains approximately 8000 names of which from 2500 to 3000 are colored Supervisor Goss has taken a great deal of pains to have this list as correct as possible but in transcribing so many names it is obvious that many errors must necessarily occur and the suoervisor asks all whose names do not appearproperly on the list to notify him at onccor at the most not later than Saturday of next week The proper correction will then be made I l1J gvj I CTRAGOOl CLOTHES FOR BOYS Ederhcimcr Stein Co Makers I WANT every boy to have one I of the unknown vessel reported last Wednesday as displaying diwtreas Fignals in the gulf has been solved i Tie key to the solution was furnished by the arrival in port Jester day of the two vessels connected 1 with the incident These are the Rus ian bark Ocean and the Norwegian i bark Marietta and Oe reports i made by the captains of both vessels set at rest the numerous theories advanced concerning this much talk cdof maritime happening The first report of this matter as made by the bar pilots wa correct according to the information furnished i them by Captain Ericsson of the I bark Ocean This was to the effect I that he sighted an unknown vesse in tha gulf displaying signals which he took to be a call tar assistance but he was unable to say for a certainty that he read the ignals correctly owing to the fog prevailing at the time Since the occurrence both vessels have arrived at quarantine where the matter was discussed by the captains Captain Bjornstad of the Marietta told Captain Erickson that he order I el the signal IVJ hoisted to warn him that the Ocean was nearing the breakers and was liable to be stranded According to the international code the letter IVJ indicate that danger is ahead and that the vessel so warned should change her course In the excitement incident to carrying out tne command of the captain the wrong signals were displayed by the Marietta This mistake accounts for Captain Ericksons statement that he was not certain or their exact meaning Both ve sels were very close to the I breakers and were endeavoring to enter port The Marietta had just changed her course when the Ocean was sighted The captain of the latter had discovered the dangerous position of his vessel before the confused signals were hoisted on the former and had luffed up to prevent accident to the bark The Marietta wassailing in an opposite direction and was lost sight of in Ine fog This accounts for Captain Ericksons failure to go to her assistance The proper signals were afterwards hoisted on the Marietta The Marietta was found west of the bar yesterday and towed to quarantine at an early hour during the morning SUa was released and came over yesterday afternoon and anchored in the stream The Ocean went into quarantine Wednesday and is also now anchored In the stream ENDEAVORING ENFORCE STOCK LAWS OF THE CITY The city authorities are
