The Fraser Valley Regional District agreed to an increase of $2,100 to the station's installation budget. FVRD secretary Bob Moore said the remote station has been funded by the provincial government, and the District of Hope was just waiting for an OK on this increase to set it up.

The station measures five components of air quality. "All Hope had before was an ozone moniter at the airport," Moore said. Moore said the original budget was for installation at the Hope District airport that turned out to be unsuitable and they had to move it about 100 yards. "Basically we needed a longer extension cord," Moore said. "The new location was just a little further away so we had to pay for a power drop and under ground lines." Moore said the total budget for instalation would be around $7,000.

The government is footing the $120,000 bill for the station itself. The FVRD, meanwhile, is attempting to streamline its board meetings. In an effort to increase efficiency, the board is grouping some amendments together for voting. Mayor John Les asked the directors of the board for their input and most were pleased. Mission director Randy Hawes suggested members be allowed to leave once their regional business had been addressed.
