festivals that i It had ever known I a festival that drew upon the resources of every nation and the master spirit of that event was Gilmore Before that this name had become almost national from his and his bands participation in scores of important national celebrations but the Boston peace jubilee established hIs reputation firmer than ever That peace jubilee gave an impetus to music in the United States that was immediately felt in the organizations of chorus societies almost everywhere and I rendered it possible to hold festivals which but for the comparison with the jubilee I would be called great One such festival is to be hold in Salt I Lake the latter part of this week at which IL the same Gilmore will preside and where much of the grand music that was seen at the Boston jubilee will bo rendered by Stephens Six Hundred accompanied by I uwor ana DlS PJl 01 solo musicians These voices have been for a long time training under Prof Stephens and have reached a perfection that will fully sustain our end of the concerts It is nothing to the detriment of any other organization to say that Gilmoros band is unequaled Most of Its members have played together for nearly a score of years and they are besides the cream of the profession Beside the choruses and the band four distinguished soloists will be heard in Salt Lake for the first time Monsieur Clo dio is a great artist who was first brought to America by Mapleson as primo tenore of his famous Italian Opera company in 1SS2 and 1SS3 and he also saw In opera with Patti on her last operatic tour of the eastern states He has a sympathetic voice and is accounted one of the beat tenors heard in America in romantic roles The Misses Schneeloch made their debut in Cbickeringh ail the past season and captured the audience completely The younger Miss Emilia was compared by the press to Carlotta Patti both in style and brilliance Miss Emma is richvoiced contralto and their duet sing ing is called marvelous in its perfection They will have prominent places on the pro gramme Mr Edw ard OMahoney the basso profundo has been for several sea cons with Mr Gilmore and is exceedingly 4 popular with his audience THE
