Held under the auspices of the Perth Sporting Club in the Salutation Hotel the capacity crowd had a most enjoyable evening. Although promoter Bill Anderson did not have his problems to seek with eight call-offs on the day of the show, he was still able to produce seven contests. Light middeweight Joe Boyd was unfortunate not to draw a bye in the semi-final of his division and therefore had to face the prospect of boxing twice. In his first bout he was opposed by Neil Thomson of St Francis ABC. The pattern of the Railway Club boxer was obvious from the start in that he took his time and was pacing himself for the latter stages of the contest.

Boxing behind a good stiff left hand Boyd kept Thomson at hay until eventually the St Francis boy ran out of ideas and by the third round Boyd was well on top. Midway through the last round Thomson was given a compulsory count of eight. Boyd's superiority was confirmed by the unanimous decision of the judges. IN the men's National League indoor matches played last weekend Perthshire picked up four valuable points from their matches againsi Carnegie and Kirkcaldy. Firstly Carnegie were defeated 7.5 and this was followed by a 6.5 win over Kirkcaldy and thew results leave 'Shire in mid-table with four points from four games.

The ladies opened their indoor league programme with a 3-2 victory over Boroughrouir but lost their other matches 4.3 to Griwe 4-2 to Edinburgh Ladies. points this weekend although it is unlikely lobe at the expense of Gordonians or Wcstcrn. Helpers arc again required this weekend for the indoor carpet. Please come along on Friday about pm and Sunday around 5 pm. In the final Boyd was once again opposed by a boxer from the St Francis Club.

On this occasion it was Craig Edmunds. Although Boyd won the first round he started to wilt as the bout progressed and this timc it was his turn to take a compulsory count of eight in the last round. The verdict was a unanimous points win for Edmunds but inc will have learned a lot from his evening's efforts. To allow you toup with your hockey cronies over the Christmas period Robin has arranged a general knowledge quiz which will take place in the Bridge nd Leisure Centre at 8 pm on Boxing Day. Tcams of four are rcqucstcd if you arc unable to raise a team come along anyway.

The cost will he 4 per team. Another Railway Club boxer to appear on the evenings' programme was 12-year-old Steve McGuire who boxed a three one-minute round contest against James Forsyth of the Arbroath ABC. McGuire tried throughout this contest to catch up with his elusive opponent but Forsyth was just too rangy for him and ran out a points winner. At this stage in his career McGuire is still in the learning process and after only three bouts shows well for the future. In the only outdoor match played Perthshire II overcame Forfar by five goals to nil in their first Midlands League Cup match.

When looking at the score it should he home in mind that Jim Hunter and Hugh Galan played for Forfar in the when four of the goals were scored! Tomorrow's tcams: Mcn's Second XI Harris IV (mcct Bridgcnd Lcisurc Ccntrc 10.45 am, shoes for blacs) J. Hunter, D. Rhind, A. Lewis, A. Swan, Mitchell, R.
