Tarrant has scored in each of his three matches and, with Tony Richards unfit, he has supplied the needed punch.

Walsall moved with more directness than Palace, but after Brian Taylor and Tarrant had put Walsall two ahead, the Londoners recovered their poise with a goal through former Brierley Hill forward George Cooper. Walsall: Chilvers; Haddington, Perkins; jarma McPherson, Rawlings: Stewart, Tarrant, Hodgkisson, Davie, Taylor. Crystal Palace: Rouse: Edwards, Noakes; Long. Choules, Proudler: Berry. Byrne, Deakin.

Cooper. Harrison. Referee: F. H. Gerrard (Preston).

Walsall wasted no time. Straight from the kick-off Davie had a shot blocked, and Hodgkisson hit the rebound just wide. The Palace defenders were quick to tackle, but is the eighth minute two successive raids led to BRIAN TAYLOR putting Walsall in the lead. Stewart made Rouse dive fulllength to turn out a strong drive. The corner was only half-cleared.

and Haddington, rushing up, passed to Taylor, who rounded the goalkeeper. two raids, which Rouse saved each time. A Taylor cross looked promising for Walsall, but Proudler kicked the ball over his own goal. Palace kept the Walsall defence busy for a time, but lacked shooting power. Then Walsall attacked again.

Walsall's attack had now lost its earlier liveliness. A Palace free kick on the edge of the Walsall penalty area had the defence in trouble and Deakin dashed forward to head the ball just over. Davie tried a snap shot which Rouse held lust under the bar and then the Scot burst through to force the goalkeeper to make another good save. Jarman put his own goal in jeopardy when he dribbled into his own goalmouth and then lost the ball, but his colleagues blocked the Palace attempt. Palace tried hard to equalise in the dying minutes, and twice Perkins relieved pressure by kicking into touch.

But generally the Walsall defence was in command. Attendance 11.758. Waterman is married PEER WATERMAN. 22- year-old British welterweight champion, was married today at All Souls, Langharn Place, London, to Miss Gillian Davies, 19, of Stoke Newington, N. Terry Spinks.

the Olympic flyweight champion, now a successful professional, was there, and so was Yolande Pompey. who fought for the world lightheavyweight championship last year, but there were 'comparatively few others from the boxing game. Mr. and Mrs. Waterman were going to Torquay for their honeymoon, And another Offside tactics by Palace twice caught out the Walsall forwards.

Then Deakin put Harrison through at the other end, but Perkins recovered to rob the winger and pass back to safety. After hi minutes Walsall weal further ahead through TED TARRANT, who kept up his record of a goal a match this season. Willie Davie made the opening. Tarrant ran on and swerved to the right past the 'keeper. Palace's young attack was not given much scope by Walsall's defence and most of their efforts were from outside the penalty area.

In the 35th minute, George Cooper missed a good chance for Palace. McPherson misjudged a rieht wing cross, and Cooper had only Ciulvers to heat, but from five yards slammed the ball well over. Consideirng a strong wind in their favour. Palace were not making the most of their limited opportunities. After 40 minutes, however.

COOPER made amends. Byrne ran down the right wing and his cross beat the Walsall defenders. Cooper gave Chilvers no chance with a left foot shot into the corenr. 2 Crystal I With the wind in their favour. Walsall swept down on the Palace goal.

with Tarrant prominent in WOLVES From Page One tipped the ball over the bar. Next Booth tried a header, but could not heat Baynham. Half-time---Luton Wolves Soon after the restart, Wilkes hroke away and nearly caught the Luton defence napping, hut Bavnham came out to save well. Bavham drooped a shot from Flowers and Deeley, following up. shot at Bavham with the goal at his mercy.

In the 73 minute Wolves reduced the arrears through WILSHAW when be shot a Deelcy free-kick through from point-blank range. In the 81st minute TURNER regained Luton's wo-goa I advantage. BLUES From Page One With little coming his way in the form of organised moves up the right, the 19-year-old debutant moved into the middle in search of of the ball. Three yards outside the penalty area he challenged Casey for the ball and got it and let go a right footer which was slightly deflcted and beat Simpson as he dived sideways. The lad jumped in the air in joyous amazement and a little later had the crowd roaring again when once more from the middle he missed the goal only by a fraction with a superb left footer after a neat bit of work by Kinsey and Brown.

liellawell's goal put some life into City and there were determined efforts to get back on level terms. But in the 74th minute CURRY made it 3-1 and the end was in sight. Again it was a bad slip on the part of the City defence. When Mitchell floated over a corner kick. Curry was quite unmarked over by the far post and Smith was standing by and watching as the United leader headed the ball in from six yards out.

In the 87th minute. a Birmingham defender was ruled to have handled when a left wing corner came over and MITCHELL netted from the penalty spot.
