Iu his address before the Essex Agricultural Society of Massachusetts, Mr. Edward Everett tatei that inch a thing hh a steam vessel was known iu Spain as early as 1453. Larimer was its president, but never paid up. The defence was, that tho subscription was made at the instance of General Larimer, with the understanding that Gen. Robiuhou would never be called upon to pay it, tho compauy desiring only to have the influence of his name. It was further conteuded that tbe etock had been transferred by Gen. Uobiusou to General Larimer, and by the latter to tbe company, ami that therefore any claim that might have existed against the defendant was extinguished, and the plaiutifTs could not recover.
