The tractor is his Massey-Harris "44". This tractor, one of four on the Schnakenberg farms, was purchased in the fall of 1948. and. has been used on some farm job practically everyday since. Thees says it is a tractor that is "good and powerful, all-purpose, and handles lots of jobs." Repairs on this machine have been negligible. Henry Schnakenberg Farmed 80 Acres in Germany— FARMS 640 ACRES IN KOSSUTH COUNTY Though Henry SchnaJcenberg has retired from active work after a long fanning career, he maintains an active interest in everything thai goes on. Thees and John Schnakenberg, assisted by Richard BrUlow, handle the work on the 480 acres belonging to Henry and the quarter section the boys own. Henry, pictured at right, came to this country from Germany in 1927, at the age of forty-seven. He first went to South Dakota and farmed there for a spell, later coming to reside permanently in Kossuih county. He started here with a quarter section. In Germany, where he had an 80 acre farm near Bremen, Henry farmed from 1913 to 1927. One of the outstanding differences in farming in the two lands, he says, is the vast difference in farming machinery. Machinery there was nothing lo be compared with what we have to do ihe job here, he says.
