Phil McCoy Still Phil MeCoy is still nt Mary Elizabeth Hospital, the proposed trip to Judge MeCoy's summer home on the New England coast having been postponed. Mr. McCoy is still improving and is able to see his friends. Professor Benjamin Sledd, of Wake Forest College, was here yesterday on his way to Chapel Hill, where he will deliver a series of leetures before the summer school students on "English Literature." Professor Sledd will be gone for two weeks. Union Meeting of Epworth Leagues.Epworth leagues of the city will bold a union meeting tonight at 8 o'elock at Central Methodist church.

Leaguers and others interested in the work are cordially invited to be present. Short talks will be made by those prominent in the work. Sociability Raleigh sociability tour made to points in Eastern North Carolina is now tically only one week off. So far 42 reservations have been made by business men who are going on this trip. In addition hope to pass the workmens' tion bill, corrupt practices bill, Philippine bill, Civil War and Spanish War pension bills, and a bill to enlarge the Interstate Commerce Commission. If any time is left the immigration and labor bills will considered. child. naval appropriation bill, carryng provisions for $315,000,000, is now the unfinished business of the Senate, and will be forced to a vote this if possible. The two big questions, the number of capital ships and the ment armor plant, will be considered tomorrow and Tuesday.

Immediately after the naval bill in out of the way Senator Chamberlain, chairman of the Committee Affairs, will get the army appro printion bill before the Senate. Then will follow the shipping measure and the revenue bill. It is generally understood among leaders of Congress that if the shipping bill and the revenue bill, and, of course, the supply bills, are put through, some of the other measures pending can go over until next session. The President is insistent upon the shipping bill, the revenue bill, and the workmans' com -bill. He hopes that the child labor bill be passed before Congress adjourns, but will not insist on netion now.

It will require long hours and strentOnS labor to put through the program outlined by the Democratic caucus last night. In a statement issued today the Navy League of the United States, which has been hammering the Demoerats for "not being prepared," admits that "the naval appropriation bill it passed the House goes further towards adequacy than any other bill ever drafted in the history of the nation." "The league has been asked to take part in protests against the "total inadequacy" of this measure, and has declined the invitation though they come from loyal friends who have been unwavering in suppirting us. We have felt and said that fL body willing to give the navy about $125,000,000 more than any prior annual appropriation is entitled to commendation." Here is the way Horace would do it: "Let Slim see the paper and when the U-boat from Germany wants a pilot let Slim decide to go. "Cap will be too sly to let Slim get by with any such scheme as that, so he will get the captain of the boat to let him come on board in disguise. "In due time Slim arrives and tells his name and where he is from to Cap whom he takes to be the captain of the boat and also tells him about the ad in the paper. The supposed captain tells him to go on the inside and look around, which he does. "When Slim goes inside Cap has man to close and lock the hold of the ship.

He then orders the crew to capture Slim and bind his hands and feet and this is done. "Now do you think Slim can slip out of this? "Hopefully, Do- Well." Horace's letter will go with others to the artist who portrays the many capes of Slim.
