Army and law student, and Joe, 1566 Stater Hilton, Buffalo. WELLSVILLE, NEW YORK 'Worth Talking About' To the Editor: Would some one define the following, a Republican, a Democrat, a Liberal Republican, a Conservative Republican, a Liberal Democrat, and a Conservative Democrat? Is the word Republican or Democrat anything more than a name? ff so, what and how? A liberal is defined as, inclining toward progress and reform, having liberal opinions or connections, generous or lavish in giving. A conservative is defined as, inclined toward preserving the existing order of things, opposed to change, moderate, cautious, conserving and preserving. If any party consisting of the above two opposing characteristics, could they not be considered absolutely confusing and contradicting in their nature? When the voting public is faced with the choice of a Democrat or a Republican having the above descriptive characteristics, can they not be confused as to what principles and policies are incorporated into their platforms? No one would doubt that men in and out of politics would have varying opinions on any subject. But shouldn't men belonging to a political party clarify and solidify their differences into a working undertaking before entering the campaigning arena? Wouldn't the absence of this unity of thought and purpose easily bring defeat? If the President is the leader of a political party, and that political party formulates a certain platform, shouldn't it's members push for a complete unified victory without individual dissention? If the Army's Chiefs of Staff formulated a form of action, then instructed their generals to execute those orders, should the sergeants and corporals be allowed to rebel without the threat of being courtmarshalled? Would you expect victory to be the reward if such dissention went unchecked? I do not believe the voting public should be held to voting for it's party designate because they are so enrolled, but the nominated candidate should, because they are the recipient of the power and the support of that party.

They should be well Monday, November 2, 1970 aware of the policies of their party, and if they could not in conscience follow their party's policies, they should freely leave that party and adhere to one that is compatible to their way of thinking. Does not every organization need leadership as well as loyality? Can every member demand that the policies and their execution be as the individual desires? I don't think it has been successful in the past and I don't believe it is now or will be in the future. Let us have clear party policies and stop this internal conflict of party members so as to move toward a better society. Robert J.
