Built in Death Scares Villagers BEEDENBOSTEL, Germany lurks in the walls of this small village in the north German moorlands. Beedenbostel and some other small hamlets in the vicinity have been seized by the jitters since Richard Germer died in his locksmith workshop after a seemingly harmless steel tube he was forging blew up in a violent blast. Germer's death meant the beginning of many sleepless nights to villagers who took thousands of these steel tubes from a nearby Wehrmacht ammunition depot shortly after the war. The tubes soon were traded on the black market and some local builders bought them to reinforce walls of small farm houses. Others were used to fence off pastures or flower gardens.

Results of an investigation into Germer's death chilled the bones of many a farmer. The "steel tubes" were special explosives used by Gorman engineers in the war against Russia. Authorities found out that farmer II. Hoppensteclt from nearby Ende- had fenced off his cattle with 120 such explosive tubes. They said lightning striking into the fence would have set off an atomic-like chain explosion.

Holiday Season Formally Opens A large crowd of interested adults and children braved the inclement weather Friday evening to take part in the formal dedication of the new living Christmas tree on ths Community house lawn and at ths same time mark the opening oi the Christmas season In Pentwater. Promptly at 7 p. m. the ringing of church and school bells an- lounced the turning on of lights on tree and overhead on the street throughout the business district. A short program of music by the Pentwater school band and carol singing preceded the dedication of the tree by William Yonkman.

A trio composed of Mesdames Donald Baldwin, John Rottschafer and Peter Stielstra sang "Away in a Manger" and the combined choirs of the Methodist and Baptist churches sang "0, Come, All Ye Faithful." The Rev. Mr. Elmer G. Ubbinck read the Bible story of the first Christmas and the Rev. Mr.

George Chaffee pronounced the benediction. Harold B. Shaw presided as master of ceremonies. PENTWATER MRS. LEONORE P.

WILLIAMS Pentwater Representative of The News Telephone: Pentwater 443 Miss Myrna Joan Myers Weds Harold H. Carlin After licorice is extracted from the roots of the licorice plants, the residue is used to make a firefighting foam and insulating board for builders. Miss Myrna Joan Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron J.

Myers of Pentwater, and Harold Hy Carlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Carlin of Centerline, spoke their wedding vows before the altar of Emanuel Lutheran church in Ludington Sunday afternoon. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr.

J. A. Landin at 5 o'clock. Chancel of the church was decorated with arrangements of refl poinsettia and lighted white tapers in candelabra in keeping with the Christmas season. The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, who gave her in marriage.

Her dress was fashioned of white slipper satin with an over dress of white Chantilly lace. The sweetheart neckline of the fitted bodice was finished with a band of pleated nylon tulle. An insert of the same tulle was repeated on the front of the full skirt which fell into a long train at the back. Her fingertip veil of illusion was fastened to a lace and satin cap. Her only jew' was a strand of pearls and earrings to match, a gift from the bridegroom.

A beautiful white orchid with purple throat, a gift from her cousin, Miss Doris Myers of Portland centered her cascade bouquet of white pompom chrysanthemums and ivy. Miss Susan Underdahl of Pentwater was maid of honor and Miss Peggy Leak of Grand Rapids, the senior bridesmaid. Miss Constance Rohrmoser of Ludington, a cousin of the bride, and Miss Rosalind Carlin, the bridegroom's sister, were junior bridesmaids. All wore identical dresses of red velvet, made with fitted bodice, boat neckline, cap sleeves and long full skirts. The attendants carried white fur muffs and wore headbands of the white fui.

On the front of each muff was pinned a large red poinsettia. The bride's little sister Judith and cousin Joyce Rohrmoser were flower girls. They also were gowned in red velvet, the bodices finished with a high round neckline and puff sleeves and a waistline band of white velvet ribbon with large bow and streamers down the back. They wore head bands of the white fur and car ried white maline baskets of white pompon chrysanthemums. Mr.

Carlin was assisted by the bride's brother Ehvyn Myers as best man and seating the guests were Elton Grobbel of Centerline and Marshall B. Simms and Joe Gamble of Pentwater. Mrs. Helga Mielke, organist, played the traditional wedding marches and also accompanied the soloist Mrs. Donald Baldwin of Pentwater who sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Because." Mrs.

Myers, mother of the bride, wore an afternoon dress of Navy and red woven taffeta with acces sories in white. Mrs. Carlin, moth er of the bridegroom, was attired in black lace with matching accessories. Both mothers had shoul der corsages of the white pompon chrysanthemums. Immediately following, the cere mony a reception ror over 20( guests w-is held in Luther hal" adjoining the church.

A beautiful Sye-tier wedding cake decorated with white bells, white roses and delicate green leaves, centered the serving table with poinsettia and ivy arrangements placed on either side. Miss Phyllis Nerheim of Ludington served the cake to the guests and presiding at silver coffee services at either end of the table were Miss Lora Okoniewski of Flint and Miss Shirley Reed of Pentwater. Kay Kessler and Shirley Johnson of Pentwater assisted at the punch bowl. Mr. and Mrs.

James Rohrmoser of Ludington, uncle and aunt of the bride, assisted in receiving guests. Miss Joann Gunberg of Ludington, a cousin, displayed the gifts and the junior bridesmaids were in charge of the guest book. Early in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Carlin departed on a week's wedding trip after which they will make their home in Pentwater.

For traveling Mrs. Carlin wore a suit of Navy blue and white pin- check wool with Navy collar and cuffs. Her top coat was black and accessories in white. To the shoulder of her coat she pinned the orchid from her wedding bouquet. Mrs.

Carlin graduated from Pentwater high school in 1951 and attended the Muskegon School of Business at Muskegon. She is now employed in the office at the Pent Electric Co. Mr. Carlin was graduated from Bush high school at Centerline and spent two years in the Army before attending Central Michigan College of Education at Mt. Pleasant where he graduated in 1951.

He came to last to accept a position on the faculty Pentwater high school as athletic coach and junior high teacher.
