TWO THE DAILY FREEMAN, KINGSTON, N. THURSDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 1, 1970 Claims Vogt On Statement by Nirenberg KINGSTON Francis J. Vogt, assistant district attorney, and Republican and Conservative candidate for district attorney today blasted his Democratic opponent. Alex Nirenberg. for what Vogt termed were "false and mis leading statements" contained in a recent Nirenberg release to the news media.

In the release Nirenberg stated that out of 108 indictments charging various defendants with the sale of narcotics. the Ulster County district attorney's office obtained convictions on only five. Of all press releases this was by far the most outra- DuBois Saccoman Speakers KINGSTON Joseph Saccoman (Democrat- Liberal) and Fred DuBois (Republican Conservative) opponents for county treasurer, appeared at a meet the candidates night Monday at the Bonanza Branch of the Kingston Savings Bank sponsored by the Ulster County League of Women Voters. geous," Vogt charged. According to Vogt, the district attorney's office, from 1964 through 1970, the period referred to by Nirenberg. disposed of 99 indictments charging sale of narcotics. Of these, convictions by pleas or trial were obtained in 51 cases. 27 more were handled as youthful offenders or were certified as addicts and sent to narcotics rehabilitation centers.

Vogt pointed out that the district attorney's office has no control over the latter dispositions as they are solely within the discretion of the judge. The remaining 21 indictments, said Vogt, were dismissed over the six year period for various Area Political reasons, such as. disappearance of witnesses, question of law, and illegal search and seizures. Vogt charged that the Democratic candidate by his frequent and baseless attacks on the district office obviously hopes to draw' attention away from his own complete lack of credentials for the position he seeks. Vogt pointed out that Nirenberg's scrte criminal experience consists of the trial of three cases over the past ten years.

Vogt further charged that Nirenberg. as his bill boards and ads in various newspapers will attest, is not even a full-time lawyer but is primarly a real estate broker. Page mmm Promises Easy Rolison Fish Sr. Critical Of Buckley Foes "Sen. ROCHESTER Charles E.

Where did he vote the other four years?" "Personally I have great faith in the people of Ulster and Dutchess Counties. I believe. for example, as does my Democrat Liberal critic, that to live in Ulster County is like being in the 13th Century.
