Kicks' Goof Tickles Rogues PRIMETIME Channel 24 Keeps Sports in Mind we had a long talk about that before the sive goal was the fact each team needed to win last night's game The Rogues who will take a 9-11 record and S9 points to Chicago to a game at Wrigley Field on Saturday afternoon trail Oakland (99 points) Houston (93 points) and Philadelphia (92 points) in the race to the Aareri-can Conference's remaining wild card soot in the tdavofbi Minnesota meanwhile slipped to 14-13 but tied Tulsa for the lead in the National Conference Central with 130 points How ever the Roughnecks (13-12) who enter tain Houston tonight have a better won-low record so they technically are in first place Although the Rogues still must paw three teams with only three games left to play they're confident they can do it I told them we're not out of the playoffe and if anyone says we are then get dressed and get said Rogues coach Eddie McCreadic Tve been slightly disappinted with tha way played this season and By JACK BRENNAN Prime time (ports programming should be more than just snoccational feature when Memphis' fourth commercial television station takes die air is September "We're idea of primetime: sports Dm purpose is to provide alternative programming and right now there isn't too much in the area of prime time sports aside from Monday night football and Monday Bight Channel 24 doesn't figure to match the volume of sports offered by a station like Ted Turner's WTCG in Atlanta which is available to Memphis cable TV patrons but the additions it makes on local screens will certainly be noticeable For starters the following offerings are all in at least the planning is iW vi By RANDT COVm In classifying ports' most embarrassing moments such as running the wrong way with alive with a 2-1 victory before a crowd of IJ71 "Hughie (O'Neill) laid the ball to me and I started to try and beet the two guys of me" Field recalled "As 1 was feinted a gap opened and I played it back to Hughie around the outside guy Hughie flipped it back 1 got the ball at halfetride and started acrom with it "He (Minnesota defender Steve Utt) had to make a tackle and as he tackled me he couldn't do much about it" said the goalie "Your natural instinct is to come out of the net to the belL I came out but by the time I did the ball was already in the "It's never happened to me before" which will be known as Delta Sports CentraL The concept behind Delta Sports Central is much the same as that behind the suocessfU CBS team of Brent Musburger and Phyllis George Boyce believes the idea place of the injured Jimmy Husband (pulled hamstring) After tbs Rogues outshot Minnesota in the first hall the golden-toed Rosulput Memphis ahead 1-0 four minutes into the second half with his seventh goal of tha season Rosul who has played only 7S2 minutes this year rebounded John Faulkner's header and kicked it to Bernetth right From that point on Minnesota applied aust of the pressure and the Kicks tied it on a header with 5-41 to play by Ace Ntsoe-lenge who had been in the game to only 11 minutes Each team had three shots in the overtime with the diminutive Lettieri miking sparking saves cm a header by Faulkner and a point-blank Mast by David Stride Thart what made failure te stop a shot by his own teaauute all the more unbelfevablei "The game should have been over' before that" said McCreadfe "He had two miraculous saves But well take all the breaks we can get" WWW Burns Repays Coach's Faith Eddie McCreadfe haa the luxury of two goalies again and the Memphis Rogues coach plans to make use of both keepers In somewhat of a surprise move last night McCreadfe benched rookie John Houska who had started the last 17 games in favor of veteran Tony Burnt wboee knee injury May 17 gave Houska his first opportunity The move paid off as Burns turned away six shots in the Rogues' 2-1 overtime victory over Minnesota and bell probably start Saturday afternoon at Chicago 1 had decided to make the move two days ago but I wanted to make sure Tony was all right in practice said McCreadfe "John has had a bad ipelL He has done a tremendous job as a rookie and he will be the best goalie in
