tomorrow The home has been dosed to the public since fire damaged the interior April 8 The fire alarm that sounded at 6:30 am that Saturday was heard around the world Not only did it alert firemen from local fire departments but it notified friends of the late Helen Keller in all countries who responded with funds to help restore the a -b 1 1 home Almost by the time the blaze was extinguished Wilson chairman of the Helen Kelled Property Board called a meeting and an immediate decision was made to restore Ivy Green Helen Keller Shrine A restoration committee was appointed with Johnny Tuten chairman Helen Keller born June 27 1880 was a normal child until illness fell upon her at the age of 19 months that left her blind and deaf She was taught sign language and lip-reading by a teacher named Anne Sullivan Mason who had been blind herself Miss Keller a courageous woman became a famed author writing books and articles on a Braille typewriter and then typing the manuscripts on an ordinary typewriter She died June 2 1968 It was impossible to restore or replace some of the antiques and the personal belongings that had been gifts to Helen Keller during her lifetime Her dolls were
