SUGARFOOT Diagnosis Unknown Jason Evers Was Veteran Actor at 17 Jason Evers, star of NBC- TVs new adventure series Wrangler seen Thursdays oo Channel 7, recently commented: "I've never been to an acting school never taken lessons in drama never had any other job except acting.

In a profession where "ups" and particularly "downs" are accepted occupational hazards, a statement like this is rare indeed, but it so happens that Evers is one of those rare individuals who got off to a flying start in show- business as a teenager and has never lost momentum. Jason Evers left school after two years at De Witt Clinton high "school in New York City, preferring to give himself more time to sec acting, especially in time to see acting, especially in the movies, since he already know what his life ambition was, "I wanted to study other actors." he said. "I thought that was the best way to learn how to act." His first break came at the early age of 16. He saw an ad in a New York paper for an actor to go on tour with a repertory group headed by the late Ethel Barrymore. Jason answered the ad, read some scenes for the famous actress and he got the job.

They toured from New York to Texas and back again. After a year of this, his prestige was established. He starred in the 1944 Broadway production of "Janie," and later that year entered the U. S. Army.

When he was discharged at the end of World War II, Evers headed for Hollywood and a two- year stint as a contract player. He returned to the stage to play the lead in the four-year run of "Dear Huth" in Chicago. Later he played in the pre-Broadway production of "The Palm Tree in a Rose Garden" for Jose Quintero, toured with Victor Jory in "My Three Angels" and Lauren in "I Am a Camera," in which he played Christopher Isherwood. Evers' television credits include "Armstrong Circle Theatre," "Omnibus," "Deadline," "Studio One," "Kraft Theatre" and "Verdict Is Yours." His most recent Broadway appearance was with Sam Levene in "Fair Game."
