Kilmarnock: Mc- Culloch McLean and Robertson Cuthbertson Clarke and McDicken Brown- Cormack: McKinna McConville (Cockburn) and Bryson -Sub McGivern (not us-ed) IT WAS with a great sense of relief that the Killie fans greeted their side's victory over Falkirk last Saturday There was no disputing the fact that the players put in more effort than they have done in recent weeks and that' more than anything else was the major factor in the win Playing against a stiff breeze Kfllie should have taken a 19th minute lead -when Bryson hesitated in front of goal after a speculative cross-cum-shot by Brown came backoff the post It looked as if it was going to be one of those afternoons again when Falkirk took the lead on the half-hour mark with KILMARNOCK 3 FALKIRK 1 McCoy volleying in a Houston cross But within a minute of the restart Killie were back on level- terms thanks to Alan Robert' son who cracked in a low 25-yard drive With the motivation of an -encouraging -crowd behind them Killie stormed the Falkirk goal and gained just reward in the 69th minute when Bryson glided in a header from a Cormack cross Four minutes later McKinna grabbed Killie's third and final goal when Cuthbertson's good work on the right for the uounty uross Country Relay Championships The club fielded at least one team in every Sp group and acquitted emselves well against stiff opposition In the female age groups the results were as follows: minor girls McClung Latimer COMPLACENT VOLVO 2nd girls McClung Sharpe and Rutherford finished 1st Junior Ladies McGregor Melvin and Hewit 2nd and 'B of Matt Ferguson Jim White Frank Balmer and Lawrence Hanlin were 6th This rounded off a memorable day for Kilmarnock- Harriers during which they displayed great strength- in-depth as well as many fine individual per- -formances The only disappointment of the day was the failure of the 'Senior-Men's team to regain the County Shield from local rivals Irvine A This was due to a number of factors not least of which was the fact that Gordon McKin- na ran off course while leading the race on the first lap Ah well there's always next year Killie's male teams will be back in action when they compete they-returned having won 3-0 coach Davie Robertson will not -be entirely satisfied with his team a performance Volvo started well and soon raced to a 10-1 lead through some fine at-tacking from Donnie McPherson and James Gribben Falkirk made a brief comeback but only for Volvo to regain con- trol and win the set 15-6 Set two was far closer with Volvo trailing 12-3 before tightening their grip to win 15-12 Pushing Volvo so hard did much for Falkirk's confidence and the strug- £9 continued into the ird set with Volvo almost appearing complacent in patches However Falkirk could not sustain their push and Volvo took the set 16-10 to win 3-0 West Coast women had a local derby against last years national league runners up Kyle at Ayr last weekend Their good form from the previous weekend shone
