H. Frerklng and Miss Gertrude Wortman were hostesses to the Presbyterian Aid and supper at the church Thursday. Mrs. VV. E. Gutknecht had charge of devotions, using the 121st Psalm as a background. Paul Trlplett played several piano solos. Mr. Trlplett and wife are canvassing this vicinity in the Interest of the Curtis pub- .Hcatlons. John Hopkins Doctor Here Dr. R. F. Hansen who Is enj&ying a two weeks vacation fro^i his duties at John Hopkins hospital, was a visitor with his sister, Mrs. H. H. Murray and family last week. Mrs. Murray's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hansen of Forest City visited Lhere last week Sunday. Entertains Methodist Aid Mrs. Guy Beemer entertained the "Methodist Aid at her home last week Wednesday afternoon. The regular business of the society was taken care of and the next meeting will Be held with Mrs. J. H. Warburton, July 6. Go to Mayo Clinic Mr. and Mrs. Ben Farrow went 'to the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., for consultation regarding Mr. Farrow's illness last week. Drive to Des Molnes The J. E. Ukenas drove to Des Molnes a week ago Sunday and brought home Paul, who spent the •week at the Boys' State Camp. They came home by way of Marshalltown and Dorothy stayed until Tuesday visiting her uncle, Dr. Manard Ukena. Mr. and Mrs. Ukena drove •down last week Tuesday and brought her home. Betty Ley visited last week with her aunt, Mrs. Earl Shanor at Mason City. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith, Fort Dodge, spent last week end visiting at the W. E. Ley, Ida Smith and Ray Smith homes. Several friends of Mrs. Harry Mussman came from Elmore last week Monday to help Mrs. Mussmnn celebrate her birthday. , ,MTS. Charlotte Sorenson and son of Los Angeles, Calif., are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lewis and other relatives. Lakota will celebrate its annual Sauerkraut Day Saturday, September 3rd. No definite plans are at present ready for publicatlo.n Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bruer and baby spent last week Sunday with the Cecil Andersons near Thompson. The Andersons operate the Lakota picture theatre. Sid Lindsay, who is one of Lakota's plonsers, has not been in the best of health the past few months. He makes hta home with his daughter, Mrs. Rachel Klenltz. A severe wind and rain storm hit this vicinity Thursday afternoon, but little electricity accompanied the storm. Garden crops were badly blown down and covered with mud. Clarence Bocttchcr had the misfortune to have his motorcycle catch fire while he was riding home last week Monday evening. The machine was badly damaged but Clarence wan not injured. Mrs. Harry Mussman, who has been 111 the past ten days, went home with her mother, Mrs. F. C. Klester of Elmore, Thursday evening. Mrs. Kiester has been here since last week Saturday caring for her. Ray Smith stumbled over a piece of tile last week and at first thought his ankle was sprained but as it did not improve an x-ray was taken, and it was found a bone was brokdh and he is walking with crutches now. Johanna Berschman, Des Moines and Mrs. LeRoy Huskamp and baby Fort Dodge, were last week visitors with the Henry Klines. Miss Berschman Is a sister of Mrs. Klin.) and Mrs. Huskamp Is the Klines' daughter. Ed Underdahl left last week for his home in Idaho after ten days with his friends here. While here he sold his residence to Dr. Geilenfeldt. The house is now occupied by the Kepharts. Mr. Kephart is a local barber. Mrs. William Aalderks enjoyed a visit a week ago with her son, Herman and family und she then accompanied them to Clear Lake, where they all visited with Mrj Aalderks' daughter und family, the Leo Edwards. Mrs. Elso Jansen, who has been critically ill at the Mason City hos pital. passed away last week Wed nesday after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. O. H. Frerklng in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Coonie Roelfsema, Hardy, were visitors at the home of Mrs. Roelfsema's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Barger last week Sunday. Their two sons, Gene and Babby who have spent two weeks with their grandparents, returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McAdams ol Orange, Texas, came a week ago last Sunday for a visit with relatives and friends. Mrs. Adama was formerly Florence Bishoff, daughter of a for mer Kossuth county recorder. She is also a niece of Mia. Charles Winter and Art Ogren. Charles and Emma Gutknecht entertained several guests at din ner last week Monday evening in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Wado Ball Other guests were Mr. ana Mrs. August Gutknecht and Lena Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ukena, Wade Bal and Gertrude Wortman. Mrs. Louise Schmidt of Burt has been staying with Emma Thaves th-; put week and helping with the house work while Louise Thaves In in the hospital recovering from a recent operation. Mrs. Schmidt is a former resident of Lakota as ahe and her husband, the late George * Schmidt, operated a meat market here for many years. Jack Lynch is putting in an oil station on the Seifert loU at the southwest corner of town. Editor Zerbe Attends Iowa Press Meeting Editor and Mrs. D. J. Zerbe attended a meeting of the North Iowa Press Association at the Clear Lake Country Club Friday afternoon and evening of last week. A seven o'clock dinner was served at the club house. Ledyard Methodist Ledyard: The M. E. Ladies' Aid met at the home of Mrs. D. B. Mayer Thursday afternoon. There will be no regular,Aid meeting during July, but on July 7, Rev. and Mrs. Carl Hammer will entertain all the Aid members and friends at a tea at their home in Lakota. LEDYARD NEWS Mrs. Tlce Brack and Wilson were in Algona Wednesday. James Leslie was In Burt on Wednesday having dental work done. Mrs. Albert Barnes and Mrs. Alelt Troff were in Algona on Wednesday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Worden and family of Elmore spent Thursday evening at the Leon Worden home. Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson and Duane and their granddaughter, Jeanne, were In Algona Tuesday on business. Mrs. Barbara Schroeder who has seen caring fpr Mrs. Harry Sehroed- er and daughter, returned to her lome in Swea City Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Garry and 'amlly attended a Garry family reunion at Guckeen on last Sunday. This was the first Garry reunion and about SO were present. Mrs. Ben Sornsen and two child•en and Mr. Sornsen's mother of Walnut and Mrs. Henry Tramp of Council Bluffs visited at the Harry! Schroeder home, Monday. Mr.-i. 1 lornsen is Mr. Schroeder's sister. Kenneth Thompson who received lis degree from Morningside College n Sioux City a few weeks ago, is aking a short business course in iling work there this summer and also helping his brother, Milton in his oil station. H. D. Mayne, Edith Logan and Delores Mayne drove to Alden Friday. lira. Mayne and Wallace who las been visiting her parents, the Gus Nuenfeldts, returned with them on Sunday and Edith remained to help her grandmother a few weeks. Mrs. Nuenfeldt who fell and broke •icr hip last fall and has since been Bedfast, is now able to be about her lome In a wheel chair. Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson, Duane and Jeanne went to Lu- Verne Thursday evening to attend the homecoming there ana visit relatives. Beverly and Cecil Zwlefol of Corwlth returned with them to spend several days. The children are niece and nephew of Mrs. Thompson. On Friday evening they were guests at the Donald Pugsley home in Elmore. Mrs. Pugsley is a sister to the Zwlefel children. LUVERNE TOWN PICNIC THURSDAY A BIG SUCCESS LuVerne: Although it was in a busy season for far/ners the picnic sponsored by the Corn/nunity Club Thursday was well attended and well managed by the committees under the direction of the club chairman. A. L. Look. There were many people present who had formerly lived in the vicinity, but who are now living elsewhere. The afternoon program began with a concert by the LuVerne band. The Rev. A. S. Kilbourne, Eagle Grove, gave a challenging talk, giving illustrations of what Iowa young people have done and showing how people in small communities can succeed in accomplishing great things if they have a definite goal. His speech was followed by selections by a male quartette, composed of Merle Eggleston, Walter Peterson, Irvln Chapman and Robert Biging. The band then accompanied a girls' trio, Marjory Wiser, Eileen Cunningham and Barbara Jane Moseley, from Goldfield In a vocal number and a bicycle and clown act was given on the stage by the Harrisons and Billy Irwin, of Ames. In the evening a band concert was given and the free acts were repeated except for the bi- cicyle number. Mr. Harris had the end of one toe cut off when he caught it in the sprocket of his wheel as he was doing the last number in the afternoon. A ball game between LuVerne and Renwick was won by Renwick 0 to 5 and the evening game between Fort Dodge Club Cafe and LuVerne was won by Fort Dodge. Following the afternoon's game, there was a pie eating contest, a nail driving contest for women, 100 yarYl dash races for girls and boys under 16, and a three-legged race. The Community club ran a bingo stand which was quite an attraction and the Methodist Aid and a group of boys had eating stands. The evening closed with a dance. For the final meeting of the season, members of the Progressive Woman's club met at the park last week Tuesday afternoon. There were eight present and plans for next year's study were made. "Current Thought" was the topic chosen and the program committee read a tentative program. After the •business meeting Mrs. F. I. Chapman talked about poetry and read a group of plans. The afternoon was closed with n picnic supper. Leaves for Michigan Mr. and Mrs. Merle Squire and baby were recent guests at the J. M. Cox home, Mr. Squire being a nephew of Mrs. Cox. Mr. Squire was recently graduated from a theological course at Anderson, Ind., and has now accepted a pastorate in Michigan where be and his family have gone to make their permanent home.
